Big increase in teams for U-18 and U-16 football competitions

NEW DELHI, JULY 28
All India Football Federation (AIFF) Praful Patel has attributed a sizable increase in number of teams for the U-18 League and the U-16 Youth League is because the federation has been working extensively on the Grassroots and Youth Development. Mr Patel said: "This is a huge positive step."
The AIFF’s Executive Committee meeting which was held today under the chairmanship of Mr Patel, at the Constitution Club of India was apprised about the approval of the participation of 40 odd teams in the U-18 League (post inspections). This is a significant increase as in 2015-16, there was a participation of 28 teams in the League.
Besides, the U-16 Youth League has also witnessed a massive increase in teams. While in 2015-16, 39 teams had participated, the forthcoming edition will see over 50 teams battling for the top honours.
Mr. Patel said "It highlights the interest about the game among the younger generation. AIFF has been working extensively on the Grassroots and Youth Development, the results of which are beginning to show", he added.
The first edition of the U-13 League is scheduled to kick-off in 2017-18 season.
The draft for the proposed restructuring of Indian Club Football was put forward to the Executive Committee for the members along with the comments received from I-League and 2nd Division Clubs. The members of the Committee have been asked to come back with their suggestions.
Furthermore, the President suggested the formation of a working committee to initiate an extensive dialogue involving all stakeholders for the best possible path including discussion with AFC and FIFA.
The Committee also ratified the proposal of providing a time span of one year to 2nd division Clubs to complete their I-League Club licensing criteria instead of the prevailing three-month span.
The fee of the Central Registration system (CRS) was reduced from Rs. 15000 to Rs. 5000 for foreign Players and to Rs. 5000 to Rs. 2000 for Indian Players. In addition, Women Players playing in the proposed Women’s League will have to pay a CRS fee of Rs. 1000 while all other Women Players need to play an amount of Rs. 100.
The AIFF regulations on working with the intermediaries were approved by the committee.
Meanwhile, the Committee congratulated the Indian National Team for an authoritative display against Laos in the play-offs for the 2019 UAE Asian Cup Qualifiers where India won 7-1 on aggregate.
Javier Ceppi also briefed the Committee about the organistion of the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017.
The proposed new logo of the AIFF was presented to the Committee and approved. The launch date of the logo will be decided soon by the president.

Badal sees end of Navjot Sidhu's political career

TAPA (BARNALA), JULY 28
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said that former MP Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu would meet the same fate as that of former Chief Minister Mr. Surjit Singh Barnala and former Minister Mr. Manpreet Singh Badal, who were sent to political oblivion by people for ditching their mother party. 

Addressing the gathering during Sangat Darshan in Bhadaur assembly segment here today, the Chief Minister said bereft of any ideologies both these leaders have back stabbed their mother parties adding that Mr. Sidhu was not an exception to it. He said that though Mr. Sidhu had deceived his party in the hope of ‘bright future’ but people of state would not forgive him and teach him a lesson for treachery because they have a strong disliking for people who deceive their parties. “Opportunists and fugitive political leaders like Sidhu have no place in Punjab politics and people will teach him a befitting lesson”, added Mr Badal. 

The Chief Minister said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was proving to be a haven for all the fugitives and unprincipled politicians, who hardly have any base amongst people. He said that in fact AAP was a band of opportunists and fugitives who have joined hands for looting the people of state. “These people don’t have any ideological bonding but have joined hands in false hope of assuming power in the state” added Mr. Badal.

Making a scathing attack on state Congress Chief Captain Amarinder Singh, the Chief Minister said that the Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar has a proven anti-farmer track record. Citing the examples, he said that on one hand SAD-BJP alliance had been providing free power to farmers but on the other during his regime Amarinder had discontinued this thereby putting enormous burden on farmers. Likewise, Mr Badal said that the state Congress Chief was a part and parcel of the conspiracy to rob waters of state by constructing Satluj Yamuna Link canal. “It is on record that Amarinder had welcomed the then Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi to lay foundation stone of this canal”, he added.

Highlighting the significance of Sangat Darshans, the Chief Minister said that it was the flagship program of SAD-BJP alliance government aimed at ensuring the well being of every strata of society. He said that this was a pro-people exercise being conducted thoroughly in a transparent manner. However, Mr. Badal said that envy of development and welfare of people the Congress leaders have always opposed this move.

Meanwhile during Sangat Darshan at Tapa, the Chief Minister announced that the work to complete under construction Tehsil complex and Bus Stand at Tapa Mandi would be completed soon. Likewise, he said that a team headed by Director Local Government and Chief Engineer would soon visit the town for preparing a master plan to give facelift to it.

Later on interacting with the media persons at village Dhilwan, the Chief Minister, while lauding the announcement of Union Cabinet to set up All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bathinda, said that it would prove to be a big boon for residents of Malwa hinterland. Mr. Badal said that it would help in imparting world class health infrastructure and services to the people of this region at affordable rates. He said that by approving AIIMS at Bathinda the Union Cabinet has given a much awaited gift to people of Malwa region.

Slamming the entire opposition for defaming the Punjabis by labeling them as drug addicts, the Chief Minister reiterated that magnitude of drug problem was much less than that in many other states of the country. He said that forces inimical to state were hell bent upon branding the Punjabis as drug addicts just to present a wrong picture of the state before the country. Mr. Badal said that these political parties were just defaming state for the sake of vested political interests whereas the hard working people of state were fighting nation’s war against drug.

Earlier welcoming Chief Minister, his former Principal Secretary and senior Akali leader Mr. Darbara Singh Guru thanked him for sparing his valuable time to hold Sangat Darshan in Bhadaur assembly segment to give boost to its overall development.

One year Gatka Diploma Course at Khalsa College

AMRITSAR, JULY 6

 With a view to preserve and promote martial art `Gatka’, historic Khalsa College and Dubai based NGO, Sarbat Da Bhalla (SDB) today signed an MoU to start One year Diploma Course at College campus `free of cost’. The major portion of fee of students opting to adopt the course, starting from current academic session, would be sponsored by the SDB and remaining part to be born by College.

 The aim of the academic program is to encourage traditional martial art which is otherwise vanishing. The MoU was signed by Principal of Khalsa College Dr.Mehal Singh and SDB Managing Trustee and a well known philanthropist SP Singh Oberio in presence of Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, who was the brain behind the whole move.

 The Diploma would cover the one year academic and sports program and would be opened to students who have passed 10+2 examination and even degree students. Chhina said that it was historic day that such an initiative has been taken to promote the art that is being forgotten in the modern times. ``The art form Gatka has great religious and military significance in the Indian and Punjabi traditions. The Sikh Gurus took the martial practice to its zenith’’, said Chhina.

 Mr.Oberoi said they wanted to help the students who want to study and practice Gatka. He said there are ample opportunities of career choice after completion of the course as the Gatka Instructors are in demand world over.  Principal Dr.Mehal Singh said the new course is open for admissions students will be immensely benefitted from the Diploma course academically and in sports arena. He said so far only Nihangs’ (baptized martial Sikhs) are preserving the art.

 ``The martial art form is virtually getting extinct which is a matter of grave concern. This is an attempt to provide academic base to the traditional art’’, said Chhina adding that the KCGC is committed to preserve and promote the history and culture of Punjab.

 

The Dalai Lama on pilgrimage of compassion

INDIANAPOLIS: His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. He exudes love, kindness, grace and compassion without limit; exhibits moral authority; shares friendliness and invites an amazing response. The Dalai Lama envelopes us in his charming aura.

For nearly 2 hours during his Public Talk on June 25th, with more than hour devoted to audience questions and exchange, at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum, part of the sprawling Indiana State Fair Grounds in Indianapolis, the Dalai Lama of Tibet kept his audience of 6,400 spellbound with his enlightened and all-embracing spirit; spiritually-engaging message and vision that to accomplish “Compassion as the Pillar of World Peace” all of us have a responsibility to end violence since man created it and a few in society among the 7 billion human beings indulge in mischief. The Dalai Lama emphasized: a terrorist is a terrorist - whether the terrorist is a Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, or Jewish (Jew). For the most part, these faiths get along under the secular Constitution of India.

The Dalai Lama reminded the audience that the message of all faiths is love and compassion, harmony and peace, service and our shared humanity. The Dalai Lama saw education and action, not just prayer and hope to transform society, to uplift humanity, to assure justice and human dignity to bring about a change of heart and spirit toward peace and harmony.

The Dalai Lama said that science and scientist confirm this and asked that we must analyze our ideas and beliefs to give them practical shape and improve human condition, advance our individual and collective well-being.  As always, he was thoughtful and personable; at moments light-hearted; he laughed mostly at his own expense; he was serious as an ancient teacher; disciplined in his own routine. The Dalai Lama saw himself not special, but as one of the 7 billion human beings that inhabit this earth that we share as a human family.

A PRAYERFUL PERSONAL REFLECTION

I thought this time and all the previous times as I listened to his illuminating words, witnessed his radiating persona and scholarship of Buddhist scripture, respect and knowledge of other world religions, I felt that I was in the presence of not just one of the most admired men of our times, but a messenger carrying a living light of all the ancient wisdom sent by a Higher Spirit, not just for the Tibetan Buddhists, but for all faiths, cultures, and communities. The Dalai Lama spoke of India being the birthplace of Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, and Sikhism, and home to followers of Islam, Christianity, Baha’i, 100,000 Parsis (Zoroastrian faith) and others. He mentioned Guru Nanak, the Founder of the Sikh faith travelling to Mecca. The Dalai Lama saw a transcendent message reverberating in all scriptures and diverse religious traditions.

The Dalai Lama asked us to work through our differences and make a difference to life, liberty, freedom, and dignity of our brothers and sisters in faith; to end the culture of violence, human suffering, hunger, and violations of human rights in all nations. We should safeguard the environment, protect human health; dispel fear, unproductive divisiveness, and work for mutual harmony. We are in this together as One God’s Children. Education, compassion, and kindness are our sacred anchors to build trust. All else will fall in place.
I saw, as millions across the world have seen, god-light in the Dalai Lama’s message and testimony. I have followed the events since the Dalai Lama’s flight from his beloved Tibet in 1959 and living in exile in India and emerging as the noble conscience of humanity. Today he is honored around the world, not just a great humanitarian, but as an interfaith global spiritual rattna (a rare and precious jewel).

Thank you Your Holiness, for giving millions the much-needed inspiration, in these difficult times, to serve others for the good of us all. You make it real; you embody and manifest what you teach. We pray for your long life and continued guidance to humanity as man struggles to find his way through the maze of challenges, fog of uncertainty, and pockets of heart-breaking deprivation amidst incredible abundance and promising future. You have called us to embrace our better angels, serve and honor God and His Creation.

The Dalai Lama’s transcendent message in his eloquent and spirited remarks in “Compassion as the Pillar of World Peace” and his personal stature and deep conviction took us on a pilgrimage of conscience and personal responsibility to translate the lessons of our faith to make this world a more just and hopeful place for all beings and as our legacy for future generations.

“With a boundless mind, one should cherish all life; Radiating friendliness over the entire world- above, below, all around without limit.” (Meta Sutra, Buddhist Scriptures). We find echoes of this unifying spirit and lesson in every sacred text.

REFLECTING ON THE DALAI LAMA’S LIFE, SPIRIT, AND CHALLENGE

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet has visited Indiana seven times since 1989. His late elder brother, Dr. Thubten Norbu, settled in Bloomington, Indiana in 1950's and taught at Indiana University for a number of years and founded the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center.
The Dalai Lama is regarded as the Buddha of Compassion to his Tibetan followers; a venerable spiritual, humanitarian interfaith leader, and a champion of non-violence, justice, and human dignity for all God's Children. The Dalai Lama understands and sees human struggle and devastating problems through the lens of peace, our intertwined humanity, and our shared destiny, and guided by a kinder spirit. He prays and advocates that we should make the 21st as a "Century of Compassion." Towards that end, sponsors of the Dalai Lama’s visit have challenged Indiana Hoosiers to work towards 100,000 Acts of Compassion before the end of the year. Now imagine if the whole world got involved, we could achieve making the 21st as the “Century of Compassion” much sooner.

This is no small challenge. Man has struggled from the beginning of Life to wrap his heart and spirit around this profound and challenging, yet liberating and emancipating wisdom. The Sikh and other sacred scriptures remind us, that it is with God's Grace and blessings of an Enlightened Teacher our transition to a kinder spirit is possible. The Dalai Lama is among the most venerable teachers and interfaith leaders of our times.
I have had the honor and blessing of being in his presence during each of his seven Indiana visits including his 2016 visit and the 2013 visit to Louisville. In 2003 and 2007, I participated in Interfaith Prayer Services in honor of the visit of His Holiness. The Dalai Lama’s 2016 visit to Indianapolis was sponsored by the Indiana Buddhist Center (IBC), Center for Interfaith Cooperation (CIC), and Compassionate Indy and made possible by generous friends and many dedicated volunteers.

Ministry selects Aryans Rajpura for developing as Green Campus

MOHALI, MAY 15
Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has selected Aryans College of Engineering Rajpura, near Chandigarh for developing its campus into Green campus under its scheme on development of Solar Cities.
In accordance with this Ministry’s Administrative approval vide no5/4/2013-14/SC on the scheme of “Development of Solar Cities” these 12 organizations have been sanctioned a grant of Rs 5,00,000/- each for preparing the master plan which should be done within 12 months as per the guidelines in order to develop their campuses as green campuses.
Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges, Chandigarh while thanking the ministry for this initiative said that the funds would be released under “Development of Solar Cities” scheme of MNRE. He further said that Aryans campus has 21 acre lush green land and is far away from the polluted sites of the city. The uncovered area would help Utilization of renewable energy system such as solar water heater, solar air conditioning; solar dryers, solar cookers, solar pumps, solar cooking systems for hostels etc in much better way.
Kataria further added that the initiative would help to reduce environmental pollution such as air pollution caused by burning of fossil fuels and improve public health, reduce premature mortalities due to pollution and save associated health costs. It would further decrease the dependence and use of Natural resources like coal, petroleum, natural gas etc.
Apart from Aryans Group, Bihar Agricultural University, Bhagalpur; Mahatama Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramoday University, MP; Uttaranchal University, Dehradun; Modern’s Education Society’s College of Engineering, Pune; Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar, MP; Government Polytechnic Namsai Village Jaipur, Arunachal Pradesh; Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, Hyderabad; Central University of Jammu, JK; Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences, HP; Smt Nankibai Wadhwani Kala Mahavidyalaya, Yavatmal; Synergy Institute of Engineering & Technology, Odisha have been selected  by the Ministry.
Now to develop Aryans as a green campus, Aryans would submit its action plan, cost breakup on various activities, preparation of master plan & detailed project reports, awareness and capacity building activities for this project.

Punjab Cabinet approves to fill additional 12,747 posts

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 30

The Punjab Cabinet today gave approval to fill additional 12,747 posts of different cadres of six departments in the state.

This decision was taken during the Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal here at Punjab Bhawan this afternoon.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that these posts of different cadres of Group A, B, C & D in six departments namely; Home Affairs & Justice, Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes, Irrigation, Cooperation, Planning and Technical Education & Industrial training would be filled soon. It may be recalled that the Cabinet had already given approval to fill 1,13,766 vacant posts in 41 departments as per the information furnished at that point of time. The new recruits will be paid basic pay drawn on the day of appointment for three years. Thereafter, they will draw full salary and allowances as admissible in the relevant service rules.

Likewise, the Cabinet also gave clearance for the creation of eight additional posts of Under Secretaries and one post of Superintendent in Punjab Civil Secretariat.

The Cabinet also gave approval to fill 133 posts of Medical Laboratory Technician (Grade-2), 7 posts of TB Health Visitors, 29 posts of Ophthalmic Officer, 1301 posts of Multipurpose Health Worker (F), 1263 posts of Multipurpose Health Worker (M), 51 posts of Block Extension Educator, 109 posts of Radiographer, 128 posts of Operation Theatre Assistant, 33 posts of Electrographer, 2 posts of Assistant Dieticians and 5 posts of Dental Hygienist by taking out these posts from the purview of Punjab Subordinate Service Selection Board. The Cabinet decided to entrust the task of filling these posts to the Baba Farid Health Sciences University, Faridkot on the basis of only written test and without any interview.

Similarly, the Cabinet also gave go ahead to fill 248 posts of Medical Officers (MBBS) out of 316 vacant posts of Medical Officers (Specialists) through Baba Farid Health Sciences University, Faridkot after conducting written test and without any interview by taking these posts out of purview of PPSC.

The Cabinet also gave green signal to fill 210 vacant posts of Junior Engineers in Water Supply and Sanitation department under direct recruitment quota through an independent organization on the basis of merit in written test.

The Cabinet also accorded ex-post facto approval to fill the post of Director & Warden of Fisheries on contract basis. This decision has been taken due to non-availability of any eligible officer fulfilling the requisite qualifications/experience for the said post in the department.

In a significant decision, the Cabinet decided to recast combined seniority of Assistant Sub Inspectors (ASIs), Sub Inspectors (SIs) and Inspectors of district Police and PAP. In order to avoid the reversions and protection of pay of employees of Armed Battalions, this decision would result in creation of 64 Ex-Cadre posts for the General Duty (Armed Battalions) Officials/Officers up till their promotions in the next rank in order to keep them on their actual place in the seniority list and for having further promotions accordingly. Similarly, creation of 41 dying cadre posts for the Sportspersons, in additions to the sanctioned posts, which shall be eliminated automatically upon their promotion on the next rank and this process will goes on up to the level of SP was approved. Their seniority will be determined as per dates of their present promotions.

The Cabinet also decided to increase the quota of government houses for accredited press correspondents from 10 houses to 15, which will include 3 houses of category IX and 5 of category VIII by amending the Rule 7-A of the Punjab Government House (General Pool) Allotment Rules 1983.

The Cabinet also gave approval to transfer the sale proceeds of Rs.17.35 crore to Bhogpur Cooperative Sugar Mill received from the sale of 12.6875 acres land of Sugarfed to Housefed. The Cabinet earlier in its meeting on February 25, 2016 had decided to transfer Rs.10 crore for its modernization of Bhogpur Cooperative Sugar Mill. These funds will be utilized for enhancing capacity of Bhogpur Cooperative Sugar Mill from 1016 Tonne Capacity per Day (TCD) to 3000 TCD.

The Cabinet decided to authorize Ex-MP/Ex-MLA/MP/MLA/Chairman and Members of Zila Parishad and Panchayat Sammiti or Sarpanch of Village to attest/recommend a person who has taken part in one of the Morchas during emergency for grant of financial assistance. It may be recalled that the Sangharshi Yodhas would get financial assistance of Rs.1000/- per month and other facilities, who participated in Morchas during Emergency (26.06.1975 to 21.03.1977) and Punjabi Suba (1955-1965). The Deputy Commissioners of the State are empowered to implement this scheme and district level committees are constituted for the identification of such Yodhas. In urban areas such recommendations will be made by Mayor/Councillors of local bodies.

The Cabinet also approved to transfer 6.18 acres land of Improvement Trust, Roopnagar to the Transport Department for the construction of new Bus Stand at Roopnagar in lieu of which, PUDA would construct Administrative block and Workshop for Punjab Roadways, Roopnagar from its own resources/funds.

To ensure better efficiency in the functioning of Punjab Jails and attract the best talent amongst the cadre of warders, the Cabinet also gave approval to amend Sub Rule (7) of Rule 7 of Punjab Jails Department State Service (Class-III Executive), Rules 1963. Now the warders will be recruited directly.

The Cabinet also approved the repealing of Punjab Jail Canteen Management Rules, 1965 and approved New Punjab Jail Canteen Rules, 2016 for better functioning of Jail Canteens by introducing e-purse cards for purchase of goods from jail canteens instead of coupons.  

The Cabinet also gave approval to a scheme for roping in a private player for renovated historical Gobindgarh Fort at Amritsar on PPP mode for operation, maintenance and running laser shows for eight years. The Punjab Heritage Tourism Promotion Board would receive annual concession fee. The entry for general public would be free once in a week.

The Cabinet also decided to give last chance to the employees and pensioners, who have not yet got themselves registered under Cashless Health Insurance Scheme to register themselves uptill June 30, 2016. It was decided that for the period before their registration they would be covered under the old Government policy and Medical Attendance Rules 1940 for reimbursement of medical bills.

The Cabinet also gave approval to hire 50 video vans to the Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) to generate awareness amongst the masses about the rich historical and cultural heritage of Punjab and welfare schemes initiated by the State government. It was also proposed to engage 125 feedback officers to analyze and communicate various government schemes, programmes and policies across the state by establishing Call Centres with IVRS facilities on outsource basis by the DPROs through outsourcing agencies.

The Cabinet also approved the Punjab Rural Development and Panchayats (Group A) Technical Service Rules, 2016.

The Cabinet also gave ex-post facto approval to transfer free of cost 60 acres of land in villages Rakhchhita and Nijjarpura, in Amritsar District to IIM society, Amritsar to establish Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Amritsar.

The Cabinet expressed its commitment to create required housing stock for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) by amending the relevant policy. Under the policy, 10% of the flats constructed under group housing project and 5% of the gross area under other mega/papra housing projects are earmarked for EWS. The Cabinet decided that in non-group housing projects the 5% area, if not constructed and offered by the developer to the EWS would be taken over by the department. The government may use this area for commercial/residential purposes and sale proceeds thereof would be put into a fund which could be utilized by the government for creation of housing stock for EWS anywhere in the state. In case of group housing scheme, the developer can either transfer 10% flats to EWS or can deposit the price of such flats as determined by the government in that fund for utilization by the government for the same purpose in the state.

To avoid stagnation in the cadre of constables in Police Department, the Cabinet approved to designate a Constable as Head Constable (PR) on completion of 16 years of his regular service. It may be recalled that a constable is designated as senior constable on completion of eight years of his regular service.

The Cabinet also decided to enhance the upper age limit for recruitment of Constable and Sub-inspector in Police from 25 to 28 years.

The Cabinet also gave ex-post facto approval to the amendment in Rules of old-age pension and other financial assistance schemes carried out by the Social Security Department, in which now Aadhar Card in place of Ration card would be another document of identity or proof of residence for the entitlement of pension and other financial assistance schemes. The application forms could be recommended by Sarpanch & one member of panchayat or one Nambardar & one member Panchayat or two members of panchayat or Chairperson/Member Block Samiti & one member of Panchayat or Chairperson/Member, Zila Parishad & one member of panchayat. In urban areas such recommendation could be made by any councilor in the concerned local bodies. The application forms so recommended would be received in the office of SDM. The SDM would immediately give provisional sanction and the applicant would start getting pension. The District Social Security Officer (DSSO) would verify such provisionally approved cases within a month. If a beneficiary is found to be ineligible, the Authority who recommended its case would be liable to pay double the amount received by the beneficiary.The Committee under the chairmanship of ADC (Development) constituted for the verification of old-aged pension cases will be abolished. The DSSO would deposit the pension in the bank accounts of the Panchayats by 10th of every month. Concerned Sarpanch would ensure disbursement of pension to the beneficiaries from 10th to 17th of every month.

          The Cabinet also gave approval for the creation of 176 vacancies of Sadar Kanungo, Naib Sadar Kanungo, Bill Clerks, Office Kanungo and Assistant Kanungo in 8 new districts and 34 Tehsils/Sub-Tehsils Offices.

The Cabinet also decided to do away with a committee set up to resolve pending cases related to mega projects under chairmanship of Chief Secretary. Now onwards, all such cases would be looked into and resolved by the concerned departments.

The Cabinet also decided to amend Standing Order No.28 of the Revenue department for negotiate purchase of land in view of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.

The Cabinet also decided that the agriculture department would start a vigorous campaign for informing the disadvantages of sowing 1509 variety of Basmati as the same is not purchased by the FCI.

The Cabinet further decided that monitoring of all insurance schemes recently introduced by the government through one senior dedicated officer in the health department.

In view of the complaints regarding exorbitant fee charged by the private schools, the Cabinet directed the school education department to put some effective mechanism in place which must regulate fee and other levies charged by these schools.

The Cabinet also decided that henceforth no objection certificate required for release of residential electricity connections will no more be needed.

NRIs Alumni of Khalsa College Honoured by Alma Mater

AMRITSAR, APRIL 23 

In the ongoing year-long programs to make connect with its old students, the Khalsa College management today honoured its three top most NRIs Alumni, appreciating their services to the mankind. US citizen and influential businessman in Virginia state Mehtab Singh Kahlon, Canada based renowned Journalist Amritjit Singh Sran and US businessman and writer Navdeep Bharti, who arrived at the special programs as part of delegation were accorded warm welcome on reaching their alma mater. 

They were given the citations, college photographs and books by Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina and Principal Dr.Mehal Singh. Chhina said that the college was proud of its rich alumni spread across the world and it is convincing to hear the stories of the success of erstwhile students of the historic College. Kahlon while addressing the group of alumni during programs said whatever he was in life was due to education received at the college.

 Kahlon runs an IT services company and is closely associated with American Sikh Congress Caucus, a group of the Congressmen in US, working for protection of the rights of Sikhs around the world. He lives in Washington DC and owns various businesses spreads from Petrol Pumps, Stores and Indian Restaurant in Virginia apart from being Member-At-Large and Youth Coordinator of the Sikh Center in US. He studied in College in 1987.

 Sran who apart from being a well known Journalist is also an actor, film Producer is working on his new film `Great Sardar’ and is known in whole of the North America. He is reporter with the PTC Channel and is area head of Vancouver region for the channel. He also owns Music company namely Apna Heritage Incorporation and will be shortly producing a Punjabi movie.  He studied in the college in 1993-94 and is settled in Surrey in British Columbia in Canada.

 Bharti who was a student editor of College magazine in 1989-93 is a writer. They arrived on the special invitation of Punjab Cultural Promotion Council Director and KCGC member Dr. Davinder Singh Chhina who works for the inter-cultural exchange programs and world Sikh heritage. ``I am proud that the old students who are friends also have come to College to recall their memories relating students life’’, said Chhina. Dr.Mehal Singh said that various alumni have approached the college for financing various projects of development and they would be happy to coordinate with them. He thanked the three alumni for starting scholarship programs for the poor students on the campus.
