Summer camp ends at Desh Bhagat College of Education

Desh Bhagat College of Education organised a 25-day summer training camp under the patronage of college Principal Dr. Surjeet Patheja. The students  were given intensive training in spoken English, painting,  dancing, singing, flower making, computer training, sports and personality development. Thirtyfive students participated in the camp.

 Speaking at the valedictory function,  Desh Bhagat Group of Institute, chairman Dr. Zora Singh asserted that Desh Bhagat Group was committed to spread of education and for this purpose, it  is organizing free coaching classes, training campus and career counselling seminars etc. Wishing the students who had attended the camp a bright future, Dr. Singh said that children are the foundation of the nation and it is our sacred duty to work for their development.

Desh Bhagat College of Education Principal  Dr. Surjeet Patheja welcomed the guests present on the occasion. She said that such camps will be organised every year and efforts will be made to include maximum number of children in these camps. The aim of these camps will be to develop the various skills among the participants to prepare them for their future careers. The participants of the camp were taken to historical places namely  Aam Khas Bagh and the holy gurudwaras.

Fazilka Sanskrit College facing death

 Fazilka has one of the oldest Sanskrit Colleges in the region. Nearly 100-year- old college has witnessed the rise and fall of Fazilka. 

Without any Government support, the Sanatam Dharam Sanskrit College is being run by few lovers of the city from their own pocket. They  are contributing to save it, especially the Pediwal family and Shri Sadhu Ram ji Shashtri.
The college provides free education, free food and free hostel facilities.The college which gave identity to this city being recognized by many includes Mahatma Gandhi.
At present, due to neglect by the various governments, it is on the verge of distinction. Affiliated to Punjab University and the college which has given best Sanskrit scholars to the country is left with only 21 students as of now.
 Rigved, Samved, Athurver and Yajurveda adorn the library of Sanskrit College.
 Captain M.S. Bedi (Bunty Bedi)  has given some immediate help to the students living in the hostel. There is an immediate need to  save this culturally rich marvel of Fazilka.

PRO Shikha Nehra bereaved

      The members of Punjab Public Relations Officers’ Association today expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Mrs. Surinder Nehra, mother-in-law of Senior Vice President of the association Mrs. Shikha Nehra. She was 76 and survived by  two sons and two  daughters.
            In a condolence message, on behalf of all the members the association’s President Mr. Harjit Singh Grewal expressed heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to give strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss and grant peace to the departed soul.

7500 students appeared in MET-2011 in Punjab

Management Entrance Test (MET) a state level entrance test for admissions to MBA & MCA course was held today. There were around 12 centers all over Chandigarh & Punjab. Chandigarh based Aryans Group of Colleges today distributed 6000 examination kits to the MET aspirants. The examination kits comprising of Black gel pen and sweets were distributed with the objective to convey best wishes to the candidates and to provide necessary stationery items.

Commenting on MET, Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Business School (ABS) said that overall the exam was easy, But the business aptitude part was little tough. Where as reasoning part was comparatively easy.The result of the test will be declared on or before 28 June.

The test was conducted by GNDU, Amritsar this time. Through MET, candidates can seek admission in all universities of Punjab including PTU, Jalandhar, GNDU, Amritsar, Punjabi University, Patiala and its affiliated colleges.
UIET, PU, Chandigarh and Govt. College, Mohali were the main centers, where around 1000 candidates appeared. In Punjab Patiala, Sangrur, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Bathinda, Faridkot, Gurdaspur etc. were the other centers.

Punjab to give Rs 1000 to expectant mothers

 The Punjab Government today announced to give an amount of Rs 1000 to expectant mothers at the time of delivery under ‘Mata Kaushalaya Kalyan Yojana’ (MKKY) to promote institutional deliveries in the government hospitals. The MKKY would be formally launched on June 20 at Patiala.
       Disclosing this here today, Health Minister Mr. Satpal Gosain said that the MKKY would be initiated with the purpose of promoting institutional deliveries in the public hospitals to curb the maternal and infant mortality rate. He said that Rs 1000 secured for providing nutritious and balanced diet to the expectant mothers after delivery.
He said that ‘Janni Suraksha Yojana’ has already existed for expectant mothers of Below Poverty Line families in government hospitals. He said that state government has disbursed the advance payment to the concerned authorities to make the Yojana a success in public interest.
       Mr. Gosain said that 192 deaths were recorded in Punjab out of 5 lakh deliveries annually in government hospitals. He said that state government is firmed to curb the maternal and infant mortality rate across the state by making people aware from the benefits of institutional deliveries. He said that root cause of maternal death was home deliveries and people should avoid such deliveries by taking full benefits of ultra modern and quality health facilities in the
state-of-the-art government hospitals.

Punjab Cabinet okays Right to Service

The Punjab Cabinet today approved the Right to Service Ordinance 2011 to ensure the delivery of citizen centric services like driving license, arms license, revenue record (fard) and copy of FIR etc. to the people with in the stipulated time limit.
A decision to this effect was taken here at a meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal this morning.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Punjab Government said that in a landmark decision this Ordinance was aimed at empowering the citizens with the right to get the services from the government within a deadline on one hand and to ensure 100% accountability of the officers of implementing agencies on the other.  It may be recalled that the GoI is still mulling a proposal in this regard with tremendous pressure from the civil society.  A provision of penalty clause has been introduced in the Ordinance to charge a
lumpsum penalty of minimum Rs.500 up to maximum of Rs. 5000 from the authorized designated officers who failed to provide the services to the persons in a time bound manner without any sufficient and reasonable cause.
In case the designated officer has caused undue delay in providing the services, then he would be liable to pay a penalty at a rate of Rs.250 per day for such delay and it would not be more than Rs.5000.

Thus Punjab today made a history by becoming first state in the country to enact a comprehensive Right to Service Act, empowering the citizen of the state to get 67 citizen services in a stipulated time, as a matter of right.

              Announcing this here today Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal said that with a single stroke, citizen has emerged as king. He said that it was a major stride for the state as far as implementation of Administrative Reforms was concerned in the state.  He congratulated the Civil Officers for working collectively day and night to give practical shape to this act and ensure its enactment with stipulated time. He said that act would ensure timely delivery of services to the citizen otherwise person responsible for delay could face the penalty for Rs. 500  and not more than Rs. 5000.

              With the RTI Act, citizens were empowered to find out where their file was struck. The law made it mandatory for civil servants and public authorities to give information promptly on the common man's query. But this knowledge did not help much because the aggrieved person could only either write to higher authorities or move court seeking redressal of his grievance. Since the courts are already deluged with cases, there is little chance of him getting early relief in matters pertaining to digging a tube well in a village or constructing a school. The Right to Service Act is designed to fill this important gap and make life easier for the common man.

 On the onset of the meeting, the Council of Ministers in a condolence resolution expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of  Mrs. Surinder Kaur Badal the wife of Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal and the mother of Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal.  They recalled her outstanding services in the political, social and religious spheres and prayed to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul.   A two-minute silence was also observed in the memory of Mrs. Badal.

Anshu Kataria selected CMA president

Punjab to re-employe retired 332 PCMs doctors

The Punjab Government has decided to take a step to meet the shortfall of specialist doctors in the state hospitals by offering re-employment to retired PCMS doctors.

 Disclosing this today the Health Minister Mr. Satpal Gosain said that Government had to resort to re -employment as Punjab was facing shortfall of 332 specialists’ doctors in various streams. He said that Punjab was offering re-employment to those specialist doctors who have retired from the PCMS.   

          He said that Retired PCMS Specialist doctors who were  less than 65 years of age and had a satisfactory service record could be considered for re-employment on contractual terms for two years which could be extended up to five years, (subject to age limit of 65 years) depending upon their performance.

          He said that according the instructions finalizing by the state government, the selected specialist would be paid last pay drawn minus pension. The Minister said that the specialist doctors would work against a vacant clinical post and there appointment would not be transferable.

Punjab sets new record in wheat procurement

The Punjab State today clocked a new record in wheat procurement with various government agencies and traders  procuring 11050312 tonnes of wheat beating the previous year procurement target of 110 lacs tonnes wheat.
       According to an official spokesman Out of total procurement of 11040994 tonnes of wheat Government agencies procured 110.50 lakh tonnes of wheat (99.7%) till date whereas private traders procured
33982 tonnes (0.3%) of wheat. Till May 31, PUNGRAIN had procured 17.52 lakh tonnes (15.9%) whereas MARKFED procured 25.83 lakh tonnes (23.4%). PUNSUP procured 24.59 lakh tonnes (22.3%), PSWC procured 15.50 lakh tonnes (11.3%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 12.10 lakh tonnes   (11 %) of wheat.
       The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 16.60 lakh tonnes of wheat which was the 15% of the total procurement of wheat in the state.
       The spokesman added that Ferozepur with 13.69 lakh tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas district Sangrur with 10.28 lakh tonnes of procurement was at second slot and District Ludhiana with 8.61 lakh tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
The spokesman said that this year the state government had made elaborate arrangement for procurement of wheat expecting a bumper crop. Total 1734 marketing centers all over the state work day and night to ensure hassle free procurement. He said that farmers were given payment of their produce within 48 hours after lifting of their wheat. He said that a total payment of Rs.12178.91 crores has been made to the farmers.
