CHANDIGARH, JULY 1
It was a glorious and superlative day in the annals of the Indian Army’s most decorated regiment, the elite SIKH Regiment, when “23 Sikh” commenced its raising at Sikh Regimental Centre, Ramgarh Cantt and took over the mantle of being the youngest Battalion of the valiant Sikhs.
The 23rd Battalion the Sikh Regiment celebrated the memorable day with customary Gurudwara Sahib Function, with elan and gusto, praying to the Almighty to shower his benevolent blessings on the Battalion and give the entire team the courage and unflinching determination to achieve the pinnacle of Regimental heritage.
To commemorate the historical event, Special Sainik Sammelan was taken by Lt Gen GS Shergill, VSM**, Col of the Sikh Regiment. He congratulated all ranks of the traditionally valiant ‘Khalsas’ on the new raising and exhorted them to be a happy, motivated and cohesive fraternity and live up to the glorious legacy of the Indian Army and the Sikh Regiment.
The event was followed by the hoisting of the National Flag and the Regimental Flag by Lt Gen GS Shergill, VSM and Col Deepak Sharma, Sena Medal, the Commanding Officer, 23 Sikh in which all ranks pledged their loyalty, devotion, sweat and blood to the Nation and the Regiment and affirmed their commitment to uphold the rich regimental traditions and values.
