The Bridgestone World Series Hockey will be held from February 29 to April 2, 2012, and will involve 200 leading players -- Indian and international -- who will showcase their talent in 59 matches and vie for the biggest prize money hockey tournament in the world.
The eight venues for the inaugural edition of the league are Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Jalandhar, Mumbai and Pune. Chandigarh Comets will face-off against Bhopal Badshahs in the first tie of the tournament on their home ground.

Jeev to lead Shubhkamna Noida team in Louis Philippe Cup.

Indian Golfer Jeev Milkha Singh recently announced the Shubhkamna Noida golf team in the upcoming Louis Philippe Cup.
Other members in the Noida team include Gaurav Pratap Singh and Raju Ali Mullah, both of whom have performed exceedingly well at different golf tournaments across the country in past two years.
The Louis Philippe Cup is set to be India’s richest domestic Pro Golf League with total prize money worth Rs. 1.20 crore. It has been endorsed and sanctioned by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). The tournament starting from March 5 will feature 10 city teams including 3 from NCR (Noida, Delhi & Gurgaon). Each city team will have 6 players (3 Professionals and 3 Amateurs) including the top 18 players of the country.
Jeev Milkha Singh (born 15 December 1971) is the first Indian professional golfer to become a member of the European Tour. He is the highest ranked Indian golfer in the world and first broke into the top 100 in October 2006. He is the first Indian to make the top 50 of the Official World Golf Rankings and in 2007 he became the first Indian golfer to participate in the Masters Tournament. Mayor Keiran Mulhall visits Khalsa College

 Keiran Mulhall, the Lord Mayor of city of Coventry, United Kingdom, (UK) today visited the historic Khalsa College here and was overtly impressed by the great history and culture of the Sikhs. Punjab Cabinet recommends dissolution of Assembly

 The Punjab Cabinet today recommended the dissolution of 13th State Legislative Assembly to the Governor of Punjab thus paving a way for the constitution of the 14th Legislative Assembly after the
declaration of the election results on March 6th, 2012.
           A decision to this effect was taken here at a meeting of the Cabinet Chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal this morning.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Punjab government said that the Cabinet recommended the dissolution of the State Assembly under Section 15 sub section 2 of the People’s Representation Act, 1951. It may be recalled that Governor is competent to dissolve the state assembly under section 2 (b) of Article 174 of the constitution of India.
           The Cabinet placed on record its “profound gratitude” to the People of Punjab, government employees and official machinery of the state besides NGOs and other social organizations for their whole hearted cooperation to the government in the process of unprecedented development of the state between 2007-2012.  The Cabinet also thanked the people for helping in the preservation of atmosphere of complete peace and communal harmony in the state during the past five years.
           The Cabinet disagreed with the proposed draft water policy circulated by the Central government to the extent it impinges upon rights of the state government.
 The Cabinet also rejected the
proposal of the Union government to set up National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) as the same was against the concept of federalism and encroaches upon the rights of the state governments.
The Cabinet also gave ex-post facto approval to the additional Government of Punjab (GoP) Guarantee worth Rs 1500 crore to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) during 2011-2012.
           The Cabinet also approved the recommendations of the State Cultural Affairs Department for the creation of Immersive Experience to be executed by Gurgaon based Tricolor India Schauspiel Private Limited at historic Banda Singh Bahadur War Memorial at Chapar Chiri in district SAS Nagar (Mohali).
           The Cabinet allowed the Cultural Affairs department to utilize Rs.10 crore out of Rs.50 crore Corpus for the repayment of installments of the Principal Amount against the loan taken for the
completion of World Class Virasat-e-Khalsa Heritage Complex at Sri Anandpur Sahib.
           The Cabinet also approved the annual administrative report of the State Irrigation Department for 2008-2009.

290 units of blood donated

Two new courses introduced in KC Chawinda Devi

Record number of students may appear in JET 2012

With an unprecedented interest in Engineering Diploma courses, more than 60,000 students are likely to appear in the May 19, 2012 Joint Entrance Test 2012 that opens the way to admission to various polytechnic colleges in Punjab and Chandigarh.
This year, Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training has made it mandatory for students to appear in the JET exam for admission to diploma courses in engineering.

Children Carnival and Annual Baby Show at Golden Bells

Inter College Skill in Teaching, Fine Art competition

 More than 100 Bachelor of Education students had their brush with the art today at  Khalsa College of Education (KCE) as they converged here from all over the state to take part in the Inter-College `Skill-in-Teaching’ and `Fine-Art’ competitions. Mohan Lal Memorial College of Education (MMCE), Mudhal won the overall trophy in skilling teaching while the fine art competition, the trophy went to Guru Nanak College of Education (GNCE), Kapurthala.
 KCE Principal Dr. Jaswinder Singh Dhillon said that the aim of the competition was to sharpen the skills of B.Ed. students in the field of art and teaching skills and added that he was overwhelmed by the response. He said their main focus was to test pedagogical skills, innovative teaching, communication skills and interaction amongst the teachers.
 The competitions were held in the various categories including Languages, Sciences, Physical Science and Social sciences. In the fine art competitions, the events were organized in poster making, slogan writing, pot making and landscape. Dean, College Development Council, Guru Nanak Dev University, Dr.MS Hundal was the chief guest on the occasion and he gave the prizes to the winner teams. He said in his speech that such competitions enhance the skill of the teachers and also provide them the platform to show their prowess in the art.
 In the Science group, Harbind Singh from Sidhana College of Education, Amritsar was first, Ramanjit Kaur from DAV College of Education, Amritsar second and Neha Sharma from GNCE, Kapurthala was third while in the individual section, Rajni from KCE, Amritsar won the first prize. In social science group, Shally from KCE and Ruhi from MMCE were bracketed as first and Manu Kumari from DAV and Sunit from GNCE were third.
