CHANDIGARH, MAY 3
The Punjab Vidhan Sabha today paid glowing tributes to Mr. Sarbjit Singh
describing him as a ‘National Martyr’.
The Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal moved a resolution which was
unanimously passed by the state assembly. The resolution read as:
“Today’s
emergency session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha expresses deep grief over the
merciless killing of Mr. Sarbjit Singh in the prison in Pakistan. This house
pays rich tribute to Mr. Sarabjit Singh, believing him to be a martyr of the
country.
This House
strongly asks the Central government to build up international pressure to get
the causes of the martyrdom of Mr. Sarabjit Singh investigated by an impartial
International agency.
This house also asks the Central government to initiate strong and effective
diplomatic efforts to ensure the safety of prisoners belonging to India and of
Indian origin, who are lodged in the prisons of Pakistan or other countries”.
No other business was transacted in the house as a mark of respect to the
departed soul.
