AMRITSAR,
JUNE 21
Shawl
Club India, an association of Woolmark shawl licensees in India, today extended
its support to all the upcoming functions, being earmarked to celebrate 436th Amritsar
Foundation Day, being observed by the US-based EcoSikh organization with the
help from local bodies, here on July 6.
Club’s
general secretary Piara Lal Seth said in a press statement here that they were
delighted that the `holy city’ which was established in 1577 by Sri Guru Ram Das ji was celebrating its annual foundation day at such a
large scale. the City is also known as a "city of Shawls".
Seth said they would be extending the industry’s full cooperation to
the cause. ``We have spoken to Gunbir Singh ji for the annual event and together we would make the event
a huge success’’, said Seth. He said it was a matter of proud that the holy
city would be witnessing the huge celebrations this time and the event was
being observed to bring in the focus of environmental concerns relating the
city.
``The
environmental concerns relating the holy city must be in the focus and we want
that the rich cultural heritage and historical sites in the city are
preserved,’’ said he. He said it was the wisdom of the Gurus that the city was
founded as great centre of faith and religion but it was reeling under
degradation of all the elements of nature today.
He
stated that the motto for the citizens and the friends of this Holy City,
"Amritsar-My City, My Pride, My responsibility!," is to take
ownership of their city and thus join in wholeheartedly to improve it. The
proposal is to work with all stakeholders of the city to save, harvest and
improve quality of water; to shun chemical usage in homes, institutions and
farms; to reuse and reduce waste; to conserve energy; to nurture sustainable
lifestyle and greenification; and to clean and beautify the City.
