The Haryana
and Punjab State Legal Services Authorities will organize a first of
its kind joint workshop to sensitize the Chief Judicial
Magistrates-cum-Secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities of Haryana
and Punjab States at Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Chandigarh on September 21
and 22, 2013.
While giving this information here today, a spokesman of Haryana State Legal
Services Authority (HSLSA) said that various schemes and programmes of Legal
Services Authorities and difficulties faced in implementation of the same would
be discussed in this workshop.
The spokesman said that the workshop would be presided over by Mr. Justice
Jasbir Singh, Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman,
Punjab Legal Services Authority and Mr. Justice Satish Kumar Mittal, Judge of
Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Haryana State Legal
Services Authority (HSLSA). Member Secretary, National Legal Services Authority
(NALSA) Ms. Asha Menon would participate in the workshop. Apart from this the
erstwhile Secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities, who have been
recently promoted as Additional District and Sessions Judges, would also
participate in the workshop.
He said that in order to improve the functioning of District Legal Services
Authorities and Sub-Divisional Legal Services Committees; and for updating and
proper implementation of various schemes of NALSA and of Haryana and Punjab
Legal Services Authorities, it is required to sensitize the Chief Judicial
Magistrates-cum-Secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities from time to
time, as they form the backbone of the Authority to implement the schemes at
field level. Similarly, such workshop is also necessary for new Secretaries of
DLSAs, who have been recently appointed in both States, he added.
