Canara Bank upset holders ONGC in Atray Trophy

Canara Bank of  Bangalore upset defending champions Oil and Natural Gas Corporation by four wickets  in the Pearls  18th All-India JP Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament  at St. John's School in Sector 26 here today and garnered five points including a bonus.
Winning the toss ONGC opted to bat.  They lost their opener Tanmay Srivastava with 10 runs on the board as Tanmay Srivastav was caught by Bharath off Ayappa for 3. Thereafter Sandeep Sharma and Mohit Sharma got together and stitched a 147 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket in 28 overs. Mohit Sharma was the first to go when he was castled by Raghu for 85 off 94 balls inclusive of 9x4s and 2 huge sixes.
Sandeep Sharma also left at the same score when he was snapped by Mansoor Ali Khan of his own bowling for a well made 59 off 83 balls with 4 boundaries and two sixes. Thereafter it was regular procession to and fro from the pavilion and the ONGC innings terminated at 221with the last man getting run out on the last ball. Ayappa  (3 for 37,) M.Ali Khan (3 for 40) and former Test star Sunil Joshi (2 for 36) were the main wicket takers for Canara Bank.
 Replying Canara Bank cantered to 225 for 6 in 38 overs to beat ONGC by 4 wickets and collect 5 points including a bonus. Canara Bank were well served by Bharat Chipli  (65, 9x4s, 1x6) and P.Deshpande  76 (7x4s, 3x6s) and C.Raghu (32, 2x4s, 1x6).  Canara innings witnessed three fruitful stands 61 for the 1st wicket  69 for the 3rd wicket and 70 runs for the 4th wicket.  Vikram Malik (2 for 45), Sahil Sharma (2 for 56) and Parveen Gupta (2 for 44) shared the spoils for ONGC. For his brilliant knock of 76 P. Deshpande of Canara Bank won the  Man of the match award.

 In the second match played at Tau Devi Lal Stadium Sector 3 Panchkula  MRF squeezed past IOC by a narrow margin of 7 runs in a nail biting finish.  MRF won the toss and elected to bat and scored 266 for 9 in 50 overs. They were well served by S.Sri Ram  (73, 3x4s , 1x6,) Kunal Kapoor (48 , 3x4s) and Thalayavan (42, 3x4s)  . For MRF Ankit Rajput (4 for 49) and Balwinder Sandhu (2 for 55) were the main wicket takers for IOC.  Sriram and Kunal Kapoor stitched a 98 runs partner ship for the 3rd wicket.
Replying Indian Oil Corporation were bowled out for 259 in 48.5 overs.  Paresh Patel (74, 8x4s, 1x6), Ravikant Shukla (69, 3x4s)  and Mithun Berala 49 (8x4s, 1x6) the principal run getters for IOC.  Paresh and Mithun put on 94 runs for the 1st wicket and at one stage IOC were happily placed at 209 for 3 and at this stage MRF Skipper introduced his 7th bowler Sunny Kumar Singh who caused IOC collapse by capturing 5 wickets for 15 and hurtling down IOC to a seven- run defeat. For his splendid bowling performance Sunny Kumar Singh was named the Man of the match. MRF got 4 point and IOC got 0.

 Indian Oil Corporation: 259 in 48.5 overs (Paresh Patel  74, Ravikant Shukla  69, Mithun Berala 49, Sunny Kumar Singh 5 for 15, S. Nadeem  2 for 42).
 In the third match played at Dhruv Pandove Stadium Patiala between PCA Colts blasted LIC Cricket Club by 153 runs and notched 5 points including a bonus. With this defeat LIC made their exit from the tournament with the dubious distinction of garnering three minus points in the three league matches.
Batting first PCA Colts scored 329 for 5 in 50 overs; this included 44 penalty runs awarded because of the slow over rate of LIC Bowlers.  Gurkirat Man smashed  101 runs unbeaten off 70 balls studded with 11 boundaries and two sixes while Shiv Love hit an enterprising 84 off 115 balls with 5 fours and one six. They were involved in a 136 runs stand for the 4th wicket.  Maninder Singh (2 for 52) was the most successful bowler for LIC. Replying LIC were shot out for 176 in 38 overs. Sunny Sohal  (56), Gaurav Gupta   (36), Nitin Saini (26) were the main run getters for LIC.  Rahul Kanojia bowled a tantalizing spell of 7 overs of slow left arm bowling and got six wickets for 24 runs. Gurkirat Mann for his unbeaten century was named the Man of the match.
