Three-day media workshop ends in MGSIPAP

The three-day Media Training Programme organized by the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Punjab (MGSIPAP) concluded here today with a firm resolve of effective participative role of the Media in bringing about social reformation, creating ambience for good governance, finding appropriate solutions to the issues confronting the state and ultimately the service to the society with deep involvement, commitment and sincerity.
Sh. B.K. Srivastava, Director General, MGSIPAP while presiding over the valedictory interactive session called upon the Media to equip themselves with domain knowledge and latest developments in administrative, social, economic and other sectors of human interest to disseminate correct message to the people.
He said that journalists’ community has very important role in a democratic system and the issues of governance, administrative reforms, constitutional practices, centre state relations and social engineering must be the focus of their continuing learning processes.
He emphasized that the Media must reach out the masses and highlight the problems of the people to make the system of governance more responsive to meet their aspirations. The objective of this Media Training Programme is basically for strengthening their linkages with the Public sector Institutions looking after the interest of target groups of the society. He said that the MGSIPAP will further expand
its role in this vital sphere of activity and organize Media Consultation Workshops and competitions in writing stories, opinions and columns of social interest to encourage the young journalists.
Mr. Gobind Thukral, an eminent journalist, while participating in the interactive session said that the journalist community must focus its role on social engineering by integrating their professional responsibilities with the human mind and needs of the society. He said that journalist must have sound knowledge about the administrative functioning, politics, governance, economy of the country and other social issues which can be acquired only good reading habits, participation in debates and other
creative activities. He said that professional competence and adherence to the code of ethics are the essentials for a good Journalist which also ultimately benefit the society.
Mr. Jagjit Puri, Principal consultant while concluding the deliberations said that more training programmes for the Electronic and Print Media will be organized in the Institute with expanded themes of discussion.
 During this three-day programme, the themes of discussion included self-development and capacity building, motivation, communication and listening skills, team building, yoga and health and stress management besides highlighting the positive features of good governance and responsive administration.
About 20 journalist from electronic and print media participated in this 3-day training programme.
