Health and Family Welfare Department, Punjab in collaboration with RRC Mamta-HIMC (NGO) &  National Rural Health Mission, Punjab held a workshop on “ Consultative meet on Gender Equity and the right to the survival of the Girl Child”. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. S. K. Sharma, Mission Director, NRHM Punjab.
 Dr. Satwant Bhalla, Director Health Services, Family Welfare was also present on the occasion. The
workshop was attended by 125 participants representing NGOs from all the district of Punjab and Student of Nursing College.
Mr. S.K. Sharma in his key note address appreciated the efforts of department of health and NGO's in checking the menace of female foeticide . He said that multi dimensional strategy should be adopted
to reduce the bias against the girl child. He suggested that NGO's can play very effective role to combat the menace of Female Foeticide. Dr. Satwant Bhalla, Director, Family Welfare stated that Government has launched number of schemes such as Balri Raksha Yojna, prize money to panchayat's showing positive trends in sex-ratio.
She further stress that Government is soon launching a Website “SadiBeti.com” on which people can send their complaints, feedback regarding PNDT violations. Dr. Mandeep Walia, Coordinator RRC Mamta,  stated that although sex-ratio of Punjab is improving (It had risen from 872 in 2001 and
893 in 2011 but still there is need to work on the gender issues so that this improvement trend can be maintained . A skit by students of Saraswati college of Nursing, District Mohali was presented on the
occasion which depicted the problem of female foeticide.
The other speakers present on the occasion were Mr. Sabu George (National Level Social Activist), Dr. R. S. Parmar (President IMA), Dr. G. S. Cheema (Deputy Director PNDT Punjab), Mrs Jaswinder Kaur, Mass Media Officer, Health, Mr. Shivinder Singh Sehdev (PRO, Department of Health and
Family Welfare), Ms. Monika Munjal Singh (CRRID), Dr. Meenu Lakhanpal (State NGO coordinator, NRHM Punjab), Dr. Raman Kalia (Principal Saraswati college of Nursing).  The workshop concluded on the note that all the stake holders including Government, Media, Indian Medical Association, community can together play a very positive role in eliminating the menace of Female Foeticide.
