International Punjabi Folklore
Academy organized Bhangra Olympiad, a competition of Bhangra here today in the Dashmesh
Auditorium of the Guru Nanak Dev University.
Dr.
MPS Ishar, Former Dean, Students' Welfare & newly appointed Vice-Chancellor
of Jammu University and Dr. P.S. Cheema, Dean Students' Welfare of Punjab
Agriculture University inaugurated this festival by lighting candles. Dr.
Inderjit Singh, Registrar of the University and President of Academy also
present.
Eminent Punjabi,
folk singer, S. Malkit Singh presided over and famous Singers, K.S. Makhan and
Lakhwinder Wadali were the special guests on this occasion.
All
the winner teams of Bhangra item of Youth Festival from the universities of
Punjab performed in this festival. A cash prize of Rs. 5100 was awarded to the
best dancer of each Bhangra team which includes Lakhbir Singh of Punjab
University, Chandigarh, Sukhdip Singh of Guru Nanak Dev University,
Gurshaminder Singh of Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, Parampreet Singh
Punjabi University, Patiala and Baldeep Singh of Punjab Technical University,
Jalandhar. Certificate and trophies were presented to the all teams. In
addition to this an honorarium of Rs. 3000 was also given to each team as
traveling allowance.
