CHANDIGARH: MAY 31, 2012
With a view to equip the senior
officers of Excise & Taxation Department, Punjab with innovative measures
to check Tax evasion and mobilization of financial resources for the state, a
3-day State Level Training Programme for Officers of Excise and Taxation
Department, Punjab was conducted at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public
Administration, Punjab (MGSIPAP) which concluded here today. 18 officers
consisting of AETCs, ETOs and ETIs from all the districts of Punjab attended
the training.
Eminent Resource Persons from the
region conducted the programme. Sh. Anil Gupta, CA, Guest Faculty, NACEN, New
Delhi explained how to detect evasion of VAT by reading the financial
documents, especially the balance Sheet, filed by a taxable person. Sh. M. R
Aggarwal, IAS, Special Secretary, Home, Punjab delivered lecture on recovery of
arrears under Punjab Revenue Act, 1887. Sh. S.S Duhre former Deputy Excise
& Taxation Commissioner explained Punjab VAT Law relating to inspection of
business premises of taxable persons and checking of goods in transit. Sh. D.K.
Chopra, Deputy Accountant General (Retd.) dealt with the topic of detection of
fraud and evasion under PVAT Act during scrutiny and audit of returns. Sh. T.L
Jindal Addl. Director Enforcement (Retd.) spoke on recent trends in evasion of
VAT through Railways and measures to contain it. Sh. Naresh Chawla, a leading Advocate, held a
Workshop on segregation of taxable turn over from indivisible works contract.
The training programme was highly appreciated by the participants.
