The Punjab today took a major step to hold the
hands of NRIs that want to contribute to the development of state/area/native
place by disbursing them matching 75% grant for various projects being
undertaken by them.
In a
simple but in an impressive ceremony, the Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Mr.
Bikram Singh Majithia today handed over 7 cheques of worth Rs. 1.5 crore as a
second installment for 7 projects of worth Rs. 10.1 crore being promoted by
NRIs in four districts namely Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana and Nawanshahr.
Appreciating the initiatives of NRIs for coming forward to make a significant
contribution in development of their respective native places, Mr. Majithia
said that this scheme serves the dual purpose of development of any area along
with reconnecting an NRI to his motherland. He said that NRIs have carved a
niche for themselves by their unmatched achievements in every nook and corner
of the world and the state was proud of their achievements. He said that NRI
Affairs department has received number of projects put forth by NRIs and
reiterated his commitment to ensure timely clearances of these projects along with
prompt disbursement of matching grant for completion of these projects in a
time bound manner. He also appreciated the role of Punjab PWD Minister Mr.
Sharanjit Singh Dhillon and Olympian Mr. Pargat Singh and Mr. Manpreet Singh
Ayali, both MLAs for their close coordination with NRIs of their respective
constituencies.
Mr.
Majithia asked Principal Secretary NRI Affairs to depute a Nodal Officer for
regular interaction with NRIs undertaking various development works in their
areas so that they should not face any problem in early completion of their
projects.
Mr.
Majithia today handed over 7 cheques to Guru Nanak Mission Hospital Society,
Mithapur (Rs.25 lac), Village Development Committee, Duhre (Rs.20 lac), Dhanda
Vikas Society (Rs.5 lac), Raipur Farala Welfare Trust, Raipur (Rs.20 lac),
India Canada Village Improvement Trust for Village Pandori Kad (Rs.20 lac),
Village Life Improvement Foundation, Kanech (Rs.30 lac) and India Canada
Village Improvement Trust for Village Ratenda (Rs.30 lac) respectively.
Prominent
amongst other who were present in the meeting included Dr. S.S. Channy,
Principal Secretary, NRI Affairs, Mr. B. Purushartha, Commissioner NRI Affairs
and Dr. Amarpal Singh, Additional Secretary, NRI Affairs.
