Pak scholar discusses Sikh history with Khalsa College students

 Former Minister, ex-Principal of Lahore’s historic Aitchison College and a Scholar of Sikh history, Fakir Syed Aijazuddin today shared important tips regarding his works with the students of Khalsa College, here during an intellectual interaction. He sought more research on Sikh history, especially the times of Maharja Ranjit Singh, saying that Sikh kingdom was most secular and forward-looking at that time.
 Aijazuddin who recently published book ``The Resourceful Fakirs’’, which gives an account of Punjab under Ranjit Singh and how tumultuous period saw the emerging of unified kingdom, also took a tour to the College library. The book, he said, traces the history of this period in an original and intriguing way—through the careers of three Muslim brothers of Fakir family who were courtiers at the Sikh Darbar of Lahore. 
Khalsa College Principal Dr.Daljit Singh described his interaction with the students of history and Punjabi department as highly useful peep into the history and honoured him during the seminar. He said FS was highly intellectual scholar who had been the Honorary of British Consul for United Kingdom at Lahore and also remained posted in Abu Dhabi apart from being the Chairman, Executive Committee of Lahore Museum, an International Councillor of the Asia Society, New York.
 Fakir also asked the students that `living history’ in the shape of historic buildings should be preserved and they should constantly pay the visit to historic places to study their relevance in the past and present. Khalsa College Dean Dr.Navreen Bawa gave the vote of thanks. Others present during the interaction included head, department of Punjabi, Dr.Davinderpal Kaur, teachers and students.
