PM confers Krishi Karnam Award to Punjab

NEW DELHI JULY 16

Punjab State has been awarded the ‘Krishi Karman’ Award for achieving the highest ever food grain production in 2010-11.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Punjab government said that the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh presented this prestigious award in the presence of Union Agriculture Minister Mr. Shard Pawar to the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal at a function held here on ICAR foundation day at National Agricultural Sciences Complex. The award comprises a plaque, a citation and a cash prize of Rs.2 crore.
The spokesperson further said that this coveted award has been bestowed on the Punjab government for effectively promoting agricultural technologies and services so adopted by the farmers that resulted in significant production gains. Notable initiatives of the state government which contributed toward this significant achievement are: conservation of irrigation water through active promotion of laser land
leveling and zero tillage, setting up agricultural machinery service centers on a massive scale involving private and public sector, improvement in seed replacement rate with assured seed treatment; control of yellow rust disease of wheat; enactment of “Punjab preservation of Sub-soil Water Act, 2009 to ensure timely
transplantation of paddy” and public private partnership in Agriculture extension.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Agriculture Minister Mr. Sucha Singh Langha, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. DS Guru and Director Agriculture Mr. Balwinder Singh Sidhu.
