Sardar Singh will lead India in Asia Cup

NEW DELHI, AUG 13
Midfielder Sardar Singh of Haryana has been named captain of Indian hockey team which will compete in the 9th Men’s Asia Cup 2013 to held at Ipoh, Malaysia from 4 August 24 to  September 1.2013.
 Hockey India announced that Hockey India selectors B P Govinda, R P Singh and . Arjun Halappa, Director High Performance & Interim chief coach, Senior Men Team Mr. Roelant Oltmans, coach, M K Kaushik and Scientific Advisor Konrath alongwith the Government observer Harbinder Singh selected the list of 18 players during the selection trials conducted at SAI Centre, Bangalore from 25-27 July 2013.
Goalkeeper P R Sreejesh will be the vice-captain.
The 2013 Asia Cup is a crucial event for all teams involved, with qualification for the 2014 Rabobank Hockey World Cup going to the side that claims the Gold medal. 
India is placed in Pool B with Korea, Bangladesh and Oman while Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan and Chinese-Taipei are placed in Pool A. India will open its campaign against Oman on August 24 followed by Korea on  August 26 and Bangladesh on August 28.
There will be a live telecast of all the matches of Asia Cup on ESPN Star Sports.

Goalkeepers:  P R  Sreejesh (Vice-Captain), P T Rao.
Defenders;  V R Raghunath, Rupinder Pal Singh,  Amit Rohidas, Kothajit Singh,  Birendra Lakra,  Gurmail Singh.
Midfielders: Sardar Singh (Captain),  Manpreet Singh,  Chinglensana Singh, Dharamvir Singh,  S K Uthappa.
Forwards: Ramandeep Singh, Nithin Thimmaiah,  Mandeep Singh, Malak Singh,  Nikin Thimmaiah.
