SAI hockey coach BS Randhawa retires

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 30
Sports Authority of India hockey coach BS Randhawa today retired after completing 35 years of meritorious service.
"During his posting at various places Randhawa worked hard and his dedication brought laurels many times not only for the city but for also for the country," said Mr. Sanjeev Sharma Director Sport Authority of India during retirement party organized by SAI at Sector 42, Chandigarh today. He also congratulated him for his successful completion of the SAI job.
Randhawa was coach of the Indian team which won gold medal in the Asian School Hockey Championship held at Chandigarh in 1994-95. His eight trainees represented India in the Asian School Championship.
Rajpal Singh and Sandeep Singh have captained Indian teams in various tournaments. They were his trainees during the NSTC scheme.
Sukhvir Gill, Sarbjeet, Kamalpreet, Sukhwinder Gobbe, Chanderpal and other players represented India in various tournaments.
Teams trained by him have won four times the All India Junior & Sub Junior Nehru Championships held at New Delhi.
Randhawa's other achievements as a coach:
1 His team won Sub Junior National Championship held at Agra.
2 Coach of Punjab University Team from 1994-2004 won top two positions.
3 His team won All India National rural Championship at Gumbla.
4 2012-13 won National School under 17 (age group) Chandigarh held at Chandigarh.
5 His team 2013-14 won all India Junior Nehru Championship at New Delhi won Rs 1,00,000 (cash prize)
6 His won All India Ranjeet Singh Gold Cup Junior Tournament at Amritsar in 2012-13.
