Office timings in Punjab changed to 8 a.m to 2 p.m

CHANDIGARH, JULY 29
    To cope up with the acute power shortage due to deficient rainfall during the monsoon in the state, the Punjab Government today decided to change the office timings from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm without lunch break in all the government offices, boards & corporations across the state till further orders with effect from August 1, 2012.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said that in another significant decision, the state government had also banned the use of air conditioners in all the government offices, boards & corporations in the state with immediate effect till further orders.
The spokesman further said that the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal had asked the Chief Secretary to issue the detailed instructions to the district administration in this regard for ensuring necessary steps to curtail the power consumption in this hour of crisis as only 65% deficit over normal rain fall was reported till date.
            All the districts heads of the offices would be solely responsible for ensuring strict compliance of these instructions. These instructions would also be applicable to the camp offices of Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and SSPs besides the Commissioners of the Municipal Corporations of the state.
            The spokesman further added that the supply of drinking water would be ensured at the door steps of the residents in the cities and the towns through water tankers so that safe potable water could be provided to the people especially in the wake of water borne diseases besides to prevent any possible out break of such disease. All the SDMs have been made responsible to ensure smooth supply of safe drinking water through tankers in the localities within their jurisdiction.
