CHANDIGARH, JULY 16
Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today gave
in principle approval to setup 'Amritsar Haat' over a portion of the vacant
building of Guru Teg
Bahadur Hospital
at Amritsar.
Disclosing this here a spokesperson of the Chief
Minister's office informed that Mr. Badal was presiding over a meeting with the
representatives of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH)
and the senior officers of PUDA.
Taking part in the deliberations Mr. Badal also asked the
INTACH to prepare a detailed plan to develop a Heritage Hotel over the
remaining portion of the Guru
Teg Bahadur
Hospital.
On the occasion the Chief Architect of INTACH, Mr. Divya
Gupta informed that INTACH would act as a nodal agency for the setting up of
Rs. 5.2 crore 'Amritsar Haat', which would display the rich Punjabi culture by
creating a particular environment of a traditional village handicrafts market
with synthesis of crafts, food and cultural activities.
Regarding the on
going restoration work of Bassian Kothi to develop it as a memorial in the
remembrance of Late Maharaja Dalip Singh,
the Chief Architect of INTACH informed that the first phase of this
prestigious project had been completed at a cost of Rs. 2.63 crore by INTACH
and grant for the second phase was yet to be released.
The Chief Minister asked the concerned agencies to
immediately complete the necessary formalities to ensure the early release of
another Rs.a 2.63 crore as grant to INTACH for second phase.
Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting
included Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. SK Sandhu, Special Principal
Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Gurkirat Kirpal Singh and Chief Administrator
PUDA Mr. Manvesh Singh Sidhu.
