Punjab to invest 350 crore on repair of rural roads

CHANDIGARH, JULY 24
The Punjab government has decided to invest Rs.350 crore on the repair of rural roads. This venture would be completed within one year by all means.
Disclosing this here today, PWD Minister Mr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that government has resolved to upgrade the Rural Roads Network with the repair and re-carpeting of 400 Km rural roads with the investment of Rs.350 crore. He said that the Public Works Department was going to conduct a survey in the rural areas to locate the places, where new roads were required. He said that the department has also envisaged an comprehensive plan to reduce the traffic on the main roads in big cities by constructing the Ring Roads around the periphery of main cities.
Mr. Dhillon further said that the SAD-BJP government was committed to the over all development of Punjab by upgrading infrastructure to the level of international standards. He said that in previous regime, their government has laid down 3503 km new link roads with the investment of Rs.400 core, whereas 7830 km of rural links roads were repaired with the cost of Rs.626 crore. He said that during the last five years the government upgraded and repaired 6380 km of National Highway with expenditure of Rs.4262 core.
