Parent-Teacher meeting evokes favourale responsible

The major initiative taken by Education Department to involve, the members of the Civil Society whose wards study in Government Schools, by organizing Parent Teacher Meetings has evoked tremendous response.
Director General School Education Punjab, Mr.. K. S. Pannu had launched the programme of holding of the Parent Teacher Meeting in all the 19426 Govt. Schools in the State from Primary to Higher Secondary School classes, teaching 28 lacs students. More than 70% wards of the students attended the meeting held for the first time in an organized manner from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Simultaneously, meeting of all the 19426 School Management Committee were also held on the same day where the committees deliberated about the measure to improve the school functioning.
In addition meetings of the newly constituted 12 member School Management Committees were also held in all Govt. Schools in the state, where members deliberated about the measures to improve the functioning of the schools.
It is mentioned here that the student studying in Govt. Schools belong mostly to the weaker section of the society and therefore, most of daily wager parents do not get time to see the scholastic performance of their wards
Mr. Kahan Singh Pannu stated that exercise was an attempt to involve the Civil Society in the functioning of the govt. schools which shall result in more responsive and accountable behavior from the Govt. teachers. The overwhelming response by the young mothers of the about 13000 Govt. Primary Schools students was a notable feature of the exercise. These young ladies were found anxiously enquiring about the performance of their little one’s in the schools. This showed that the mothers belonging to weaker section of the society are becoming conscious about the learning standard of their wards in the Schools.
The Govt. machinery from DGSE to all Deputy Commissioners, Addl. Deputy Commissioners, SDM’s and all officers of the Education Department from DPI to block officers were deputed to monitor the progress of the Parent Teacher Meetings.
A very good response by the parents was really encouraging said Mr. Pardeep Yadav, Deputy Commissioner who himself visited two school to overseas the progress of Parent Teacher Meeting.
Mr. Pannu added that such meetings shall be conducted on regular basis after every six monthly evaluation of the students.
