In continuation to the Punjab
Government’s efforts to reduce road accidents in the state, Transport Minister
Punjab and Chairman of Punjab State Road Safety Council, Mr. Ajit Singh Kohar
directed the officers of the department to get reflectors fixed on all those
vehicles which had no light in front and rear side.
Expressing concern over the
rise of fatal road accidents, Mr. Kohar said here today that it was unfortunate
that almost 3500 persons lose their lives every year due to road accidents and
the government was taking adequate steps to streamline the road safety
measures. Priority of the government was to educate the people and generate a
mass movement regarding road safety rules in the state so that road accidents
could be reduced, said Mr. Kohar.
Stressing an urgent need for reducing the road
accidents, Mr. Kohar directed to all district Transport officers and other authorities
concerned to ensure use of reflectors on
all the vehicles much before the ensuing foggy winters. He said that vehicle lacking
the reflectors like tractor-trolley, bullock-cart, rickshaw; bicycles were mainly
responsible for accidents.
He also appealed to general
public to obey the traffic rules and use reflectors to minimize such accidents.
