VB arrests Ranike's PA Sarbdyal and his brother-in-law

In a major breakthrough State Vigilance Bureau today arrested Sarbdyal Singh, PA to Mr. Gulzar Singh Ranike former Cabinet Minister Punjab from Nainital in Uttrakhand alongwith another accused Harjit Singh, brother-in-law of Sarbdyal, in the embezzlement of funds pertaining to Border Area Development Programme (BADP) grants and other state grants relating to discretionary quota of State Ministers.
Disclosing this here today, Mr. Sursh Arora, Chief Director-cum-DGP Vigilance Bureau Punjab said that the Bureau was making persistent efforts to arrest the main accused by conducting continuous raids at different locations in Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand. Accordingly, a VB team under the supervision of SSP Vigilance Amritsar Range Mr. Opinderjit Singh Ghuman and headed by Mr. Manjit Singh, DSP Vigilance Tarntaran raided different locations in these two states from where accused Harjit Singh, brother-in-law of Sarbdyal, was arrested on the night of 19.10.12 from village Dhawni, Police Station Bilaspur, District Ramgarh in Uttar Pradesh. Subsequently main accused Sarbdyal Singh was also arrested today in the morning from Nainital in Uttrakhand.
He added that both the accused would be brought to Amritsar and to be produced in the designated court tomorrow for seeking police remand for their further custodial interrogation in the embezzlement of grants. Mr Arora further said that two criminal cases were registered against Sarbdyal Singh who embezzled funds pertaining to Border Area Development Programme (BADP) grants and different grants relating to discretionary quota of State Ministers in connivance with certain bank employees and local sarpanches/panches by opening fake bank accounts in different banks in Amritsar district.
He added that during the investigation of both the cases, 23 accused have been arrested by the Vigilance Bureau Range Amritsar whereas main accused Sarbdyal Singh and his brother in law Harjit Singh were absconding and evading arrest.
