The Punjab Government has issued instructions to unfurl
United Nations’ flag along with National flag on government buildings on United
Nations Day on October 24.
Disclosing this here today, an
official spokesperson of state government said that Commissioners of the
Divisions and Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to ensure the
compliance. It has been asked to unfurl the United Nations. flag on October 24
along with National flag on all the government buildings, where traditionally
National flag unfurls in routine.
As per the written instructions, it has been
prohibited to unfurl United Nations’ flag upon Raj Bhawan/Raj Niwas and Vidhan
Prishad, Raj Sabha and the buildings of upper courts. There is no restriction
on unfurling United Nations’ flag on buildings of districts headquarters.
LAND FOR OFFICE ACCOMMODATION IN CHANDIGARH
The Punjab Government has asked all its departments to
send requisition for office accommodation so that land could be acquired in Chandigarh.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of
the General Administration Department has issued written instructions to all
the Financial Commissioners and Principal & Administrative Secretaries to
send the requisition of offices accommodation, keeping in mind next 50 year on
prescribed performa.
The desired information should reach the office of General
Administration within one week specifying total area of the offices in square
feet.
MORE FESTIVALS LIKE SARAS MELA ON THE ANVIL
The Punjab
government has decided to folk festivals in line with SARAS Mela to promote
Punjabi culture and tradition besides uplifting the economic standards of
handicraft artisans and folk artists. Disclosing this here today Punjab Rural
Development and Panchayat Minister Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra said that the
success of SARAS mela implied that these festivals stile have relevance in the
modern society.
Mr. Rakhra said that
this is first time in the history that More than 1.75 lakh people participated
in the SARAS mela besides financial transaction of Rs. 1.75 core in the field
of trade. He said that the Punjab Government has generated all its resources to
make this tradition a success. He said that this fair would go a long way to
promote tourism in the state. Minister said that 250 stalls were installed in
the fair and 400 artists from 20 states participated and enthralled the
audience. He said that Rs.70 lakh were incurred to conduct the fair, out of
which Rs.20 lakh has been given by Union Rural Development and Panchayat
Ministry. Mr. Rakhra said that Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat
Department generated Rs.50 lakh from its own resources for the fair.
PROMOTING PUNJAB LANGUAGE
The Punjab
Government has decided to organize Punjabi Saptah from November 1, with an
aim to promote the Punjabi language.
Punjab
Education Minister Mr Sikandhar Singh Maluka today said that the inaugural
function for this week would take place at the office of Language department, Patiala and a book fair
would also be organized during the whole week.
He said that
the Punjab Government was fully committed to restore the glory of Punjabi
Language and it was only the SAD-BJP government led by S. Parkash Singh Badal,
who made the use of Punjabi Language mandatory in offices, Schools with a Law
passed in previous tenure. He also calls upon the whole Punjabi lovers to take
part in Punjabi week. 5123211 TONNES OF PADDY PROCURED
Paddy Procurement is on full swing in Punjab. Government agencies and private millers procured more than 5123211 tonnes of paddy till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1770 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy.
The
spokesman of the Punjab government said that Out of total procurement of 5123211
tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab,
Government agencies procured 4678097 tonnes of paddy till date whereas
private traders procured 445114 tonnes of paddy. Till October 22, PUNGRAIN
procured 1259234 tonnes (26.9%), MARKFED procured 1066707 tonnes
(22.8%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 1083502 tonnes (23.2%) PSWC procured
497022 tonnes (10.6%) whereas PAFC was able to procure 505371 tonnes
(10.8%) of paddy.The Central Government agency FCI had been able to
procure 266261 tonnes (5.7%).
The spokesman added that District Ferozpur with 589315 tonnes of procurement
was leading in procurement operations whereas District Tarn Taran with 455739
tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Jalandhar with
434640 tonnes of procurement ranked at third
position.
