Punjab to construct sheds/night shelters for construction workers

 Punjab Government is all set to build state of art Sheds & Night Shelters for the construction workers in different parts of the state with the cost of Rs. 10 crore in the financial year 2013-14.
Disclosing this here today, Labour Minister, Punjab Mr. Surjit Kumar Jayani said that 1, 01,267 construction workers have been registered as beneficiaries with the Punjab Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board and the state government has decided to construct sheds and night shelters for these workers. He said that this project would be completed with the cost of Rs.16.15 lakh, 24.60 Lakh and 29.58 lakh for the construction of labour sheds & night shelters respectively for the clusters of 50, 100 and 150 construction workers respectively.
Mr. Jayani further said that the board has also given nod to enhance the amount of scholarship, credit and financial assistant to the labourers. He said that the students (from 1st to 5th standards) belonging to the labourers in the state would be entitled for scholarship of Rs.150 per month, whereas students from 6th to 8th class would get Rs.200 per month, similarly for the students of 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th classes Rs.3,000 per annum would be given as scholarship. He said that the students pursuing graduation would get Rs. 3,600 per annum besides students studying in technical institutions and in other professional courses would be eligible for Rs.3,600 per annum, students pursuing medical and engineering degree courses would get Rs.30,000 per annum.
The Minister said that the board has also increased the amount of  shagun for daughters of labourers from 5,100 to 11,000.
