CHANDIGARH, FEB 7
In an inspired initiative to promote bio-sciences education, the Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Gharuan will be organising a Bio-Sciences Olympiad 2012 involving thousands of school and college students from across the region in a competition where top prizes will include laptop and cell phones and scholarships worth Rs.7.5 lakh.
“The idea of Bio-Sciences Olympiad was triggered by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's recent exhortation at the Indian Science Congress 2012 where he said India was falling way behind China when it came to investment in science. At CGC, Gharuan, we thought there was a need to increase awareness among school and college students about science, particularly bio-sciences, since India is fast moving to become a world leader in pharmaseutical sector,” said Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, Chandigarh Group of Colleges.
Schools and colleges or individual students pursuing science education can register themselves online, free of cost, for taking part in the Bio-Sciences Olympiad by visiting www.cgc.edu.in. All the students who are doing B.Sc. (Medical/Non-Medical), B.Sc. (Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Human Biology) and all students appearing for XII exams are eligible to participate in the Olympiad.
The Bio-Sciences Olympiad 2012 will be carried out at two levels for schools and colleges students. Organising teams from CGC Gharuan will be visiting schools and colleges across the region to conduct preliminary screening contests in schools, colleges or regional centres through an objective type written test.
The contests will then move to CGC Gharuan for semi-finals and then the Grand Finale. Up for grabs for the winner will be a state-of-the-art Laptop, while the first and second runner up will walk home with a swank, smart mobile handset. Many other prizes including scholarships will also be on offer, besides the immense satisfaction of having taken part in a highly scholastic Olympiad.
