CHANDIGARH, MAY 2
Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal this afternoon talked
to Mrs. Dalbir Kaur, sister of Sarabjit Singh, who dies in a Pakistan
hospital, succumbing to grievous injuries received in
a murderous assault on him in the jail there.
The Chief Minister condoled the tragic death with
the family, expressing profound grief and sorrow over the tragic death
prayed to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and courage to bear
this huge loss in this hour of crisis. Mr. Badal assured the family
members of Sarabjit Singh that Punjab government would extend all help and
support to them.
The Chief Minister declared a three day state
mourning in Punjab. Flags will fly half mast on all government buildings and
there will be no official ceremonial functions during this period.
The Chief Minister has announced a financial assistance
of Rs One crore to the bereaved family. The Government has already announced
that the two daughters of Mr. Sarabjit Singh will be given government jobs in
Punjab.
