Extend all possible help to Ex-Servicemen: Governor

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 18
  Presiding over 32nd meeting of Rajya Sainik Board and 28th meeting of State Managing Committee for the Administration of Punjab Amalgamated Fund for the Welfare of Ex- Servicemen, the Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Mr. Shivraj V. Patil, said that Punjab has always taken lead in solving issues related to the welfare, grievances and re-settlement of Ex-Servicemen, war widows, widows and their dependents.
Mr. Patil said that the Ex-Servicemen constitute a useful task force of experienced and talented people, who can contribute to the transformation of society. He said in the changing socio-economic scenario all over the world, the capabilities and capacity of ex-servicemen must be utilized in different fields of endeavour by imparting them skill training in different vocations and thus channelize their energies for productive purposes. Besides this, he said that existing institution in the State should also be approached to impart required skill training to Ex-servicemen.
Describing Ex-servicemen as most disciplined, Mr. Patil asked the officers to impart them security training so that they could be adjusted in private security agencies such as private Industry and Banks etc. He said that Punjab Government is very positive in extending all possible help for the welfare of Ex-Servicemen and their families. He said that there is a major scope in tourism also. He said tourists were coming to Punjab to visit villages. He said they would be happy to live in huts rather than in five star hotels. He said that if such huts were constructed for the tourists then Ex-servicemen were the right persons to entertain tourists.
       After discussing at length the proposed agenda items and other important issues, most of them were approved by the  Committee headed by the Governor.
       Speaking on the occasion the Governor said we owe a great debt to the soldiers who have spent prime of their lives for protecting the boundaries and maintaining peace in the country. It is, therefore, our moral responsibility is to give top priority for the welfare and well being of their families. He said that there is a big scope and opportunities for them to extend their helping hand to the ex-servicemen and their families in raising the quality of life through healthcare and educational programmes.
       Mr. Patil also presented trophies to the Districts for excelling in their respective fields.
