Winner of numerous awards, including prestigious Daverman Merit Award in
Architecture, University of Michigan, Indian-born soft-spoken Kanwal Prakash Singh, participated in the Talbot Street Art Fair in Down Town Indianapolis in Indiana here.
He specializes in fine art and design (pen and ink drawings
of historic architect and monuments from the Far East, India, Europe and USA
and Indiana). A Bachelor of Arts from Panjab University Chandigarh and Bachelor
of Architecture, IIT, Kharagpur, Singh’s artwork is often used in fund-raising and to heighten public awareness of
architecture and community institutions. He recently visited India (Delhi) and
some cities in Punjab. Mr Singh’s visual artistry and written work is contained
in his book The Art and Spirit of KP Singh.
His Interfaith Calendar is a testimony that he
advocates unity and tolerance for diverse expressions of faith and community.
His unique logo is a composition of three-letters ---KPS--- in Devanagri Spirit
(Hindi), which is national language of India. The three stylized initials are
written vertically and enclosed in a square. It reflects Mr KPS’ Indian
background and interest in script as an element in design.
After obtaining master’s degree in city planning at the University of Michigan, Mr Singh
settled down in Indianapolis in 1967.
Prints of his artwork of Chateau Chambord, Chateau Chaumont, Sainte Chapelle and Notre Dame
Cathedral (all France), Belur Temple I, Belur Temple II, Benares Ghats, Golden
Temple Commemorate, Golden Temple Composite, Halebid Temple Sculpture, Medivial
Sculpture, Street Scene (Rajasthan) and Taj Mehal (all India), St Peter’s
(Rome), Trevi Fountain (Rome), San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice (all Italy) and
special editions of Cathedrals, Windows of Faith and Tapestry of Faiths are
available.
His around the USA artwork include Bostom (Massachusetts),
Chicago (The Art Institute, The Water Tower, Wrigley Building, Piper’s Alley,
Bahai Temple, Wilmette), Door Community, Wisconsin, Harbour Scene, Lake
Michigan, Mesa Verde, Colorado, Mission Delores, San Franscisco, St Thomas Episcopal
Church, New York City, Statute of Liberty, New York, and the Capitol,
Washinton, DC.
Mr Singh has also produced fine editions of Indianapolis,
including Indiana Historic Architecture I, Indiana –A State in History (special
edition) and edition 2, Indianapolis I, II, III (edition I and II) and IV,
Indianapolis – 500 Festival and Monument Circle II. He has
also drawn sketches of various schools, churches, Murat Temple and hospitals in Indianapolis
and Indiana courthouses and scenes.
The list of awards and honours bestowed on him around the
world is endless. Besides a guest writer for the Indianapolis Star and other
ethnic print and online publications, Mr Singh has been a fine speaker to many
clubs, organizations, radio and television shows.
His show is moving from strength to strength
since 1971.
