CHANDIGARH, JUNE 18
The Punjab Government has constituted a Task Group on
“Health and Medical Education” under the chairmanship of Prof. K. K. Talwar, Chairman Medical Council of India. The
decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of Punjab Governance Reforms
Commission, held here today.
The Task Group has decided to work in the first
instance on laying down standards for availability of human resource, medicines
as well as infrastructure in the public health facilities at various levels. It
was agreed that there is need for better networking of the Govt. hospitals and
medical institutions, including through Telemedicine, for the benefit of the
citizens. The Group also decided to examine the provisions of the Clinical
Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010 with a view to
developing a model for regulating private healthcare without bringing in
‘Inspector Raj’ in the state.
The Task Group members agreed to initiate work on
these lines and would meet again next month to firm up the first set of
recommendations.
The meeting was attended by Ms Vini Mahajan, Principal
Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Ms. Anjali Bhawra, Secretary Medical
Education and research (MER) Prof Rajesh Kumar, HOD, School of Public Health PGI,
Prof. Meenu Singh, Head, Division of Paed, Pulmonology and Allergy, PGI, Dr.
Satwant Bhalla and Dr. G K. Dewan.
