The Punjab Government
today approved a Rs.3300 crore massive plan for expansion and upgradation of
Technical Education department under which 43 new ITIs and 2500 skill
development centres would be established in the state.
Disclosing this here today Mr. Anil
Joshi, Minister for Technical Education said that newly approved plan include
setting up of 43 new ITIs in uncovered blocks at the cost of Rs.1200 crores.
With the setting up of these ITIs the number of seats in ITIs would enhance
from present 50000 to 4 lakh. He said that the new ITIs would focus on emerging
technologies according to the changing needs of the industry so that
employability of ITI apprentice could be ensured.
He said that 2500 skill development
centres have also been approved under Kaushal Vikas Yojna at the cost of
Rs.1800 crores. He said that he has also approved short term courses in skill
development schemes, hospitality trades in I T I 's to be started at the cost
of Rs.300 crores under Public Private Partnership.
Emphasizing the need for proper
follow up of projects under various centrally sponsored schemes Mr. Joshi said
that all officers would ensure that utilization certificate required for
release of central funds would be issued without any delay. He regretted that
under various schemes for skill development, lot of funds were available which
have not been got released for want of supplying utilization certificate in
some cases and in others for lack of proper follow-up.
