AMRITSAR, JUNE 18
The girls, who are making headlines in academic and competitive examination results today set another fine examples of treading on newer paths when six top positions in the entrance test of local historic Khalsa College’s B.Sc.Agriculture were held by them. The usually considered `rugged’ subject of agriculture is no more out of their reach as they opt to study and carry research in the subject of Agriculture now.
Khalsa College Principal Dr.Daljit Singh stated that never in history of their 120-year-old College the girls did so well in the entrance test of the Agriculture. ``It is surprise to us also. It is no doubt reflection of the changing social paradigms where the girls are making in-roads in all the fields earlier considered boys’ reign’’, said Dr Daljit Singh adding that results declared show Jaspreet Kaur bagging first while Simrat Khurana second position.
``Both have 89 and 92 per cent marks respectively in their 10+2 examinations and through their last examinations weightage and entrance tests score combined, Jaspreet is first and Simrat second. The third position is bagged by Pooja Salaria, fourth by Sandeep Kaur, fifth by Harwinder Kaur and sixth by Manpreet Kaur and it is at the seventh position that the boy Sarang make his entry into the test’s results, he stated.
``Hailing from Sangrur, Harwinder Kaur said her father is government servant and she find no hesitation in opting the subject of Agriculture for her future studies and research. ``I would happily work in the fields for experiments and crop research’’, she said. ``We young girls must come forward to study the subject that is sole of our state of Punjab and agriculture needs more research to improve the lot of farmers by adopting new seeds and methods of agriculture’’, said Sandeep, hailing from Gurdaspur.
