For the first time, the big corporates have been permitted to start Technical campuses in India.
The
Industries and Business with Rs 100 crore turnover can now start
Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Architecture Institutions etc. from
the session 2013-14. Till now, only Charitable Trusts/Societies or
Companies under Section-25 of Companies Act were permitted to start
these Institutes. The above mentioned changes have been done in the
recent notification issued by All India Council for Technical Education
(AICTE), New Delhi.
Industry/academia welcomed the move
Dr
Anshu Kataria, Convener, Education Sub-Committee, PHD Chamber &
Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges, Chandigarh who has always advocated
in favour of corporate entry and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in
Educational field, has welcomed the step. Dr Kataria said that the
opening up of doors for Corporate would bring in more investment in
Education. Secondly, it would open more avenues for partnership between
Industry and Academia and would reduce the gap between them.
Long pending demand accepted
It
is to be mentioned that Dr Kataria has raised this issue with Dr
S.S.Mantha, Chairman, AICTE during his last two visits in Chandigarh. At
that time, Dr Mantha assured the early solution. In 2012-13, the
Charitable Trusts/Societies or Companies under Section-25 of Companies
Act were permitted to start the Educational Institutes and now for
2013-14, AICTE has allowed the Industries and Business with Rs 100 crore
turnover also to start Technical Institutes.
Industry would get double intake
AICTE
has not only allowed the corporates for starting an Educational
Institute, but has also permitted Corporates to start an Engineering
with 600 seats from the very first year which is otherwise 300 for
Charitable Trust. Mr Dalip Sharma,Regional Director,PHDCCI,Chandigarh said that it is welcoming step.
Flexible/dual degree courses also started
Dr
Kataria has also welcomed the AICTE move to start dual degree courses
with multiple entry and exit option. According to new norms, a 10+2
student can opt for 5 year dual degree course in Management in which
after 3 years, candidate would get Bachelor Degree in Management (BM)
& Bachelor Degree in Applied Management (BAM) and at the end of 5
years, he will get Masters in Applied Management (MAM). Similarly 5 year
dual degree course leading to MCA has also been started. According to
new norms, after 3 years students would get Bachelor in Computer
Application (BCA) and end of 5 years he would get Masters in Computer
Application (MCA).
