CM asks DCs to hold quarterly meetings with Nambardars

  Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today asked the Revenue Department to issue detailed guidelines instructing the Deputy Commissioners to hold regular quarterly meetings with Nambardars to solicit their whole-hearted support and participation in the development oriented policies and programs of the state government.
            A decision to this effect was taken by Mr. Badal in a meeting with a deputation of Punjab Nambardar Union led by its President Mr. Gurpal Singh Samra here at Chief Minister’s Residence this morning.
            The Chief Minister assured the Nambardars that they would be given due representation in the District Grievances Committees so that the district administration could be richly benefitted by their vast experience at the grass roots level. He also asked the Revenue Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia to have one Nambardar each on the Revenue committees to be constituted at the district and tehsil level related to the revenue matters. Mr. Badal also asked the Financial Commissioner Revenue to coordinate with Deputy Commissioners for ensuring proper support and cooperation from the Revenue officials posted in field especially the Patwaris to Nambardars for helping the state in various matters. The Chief Minister asked the Finance Department to immediately release the pending payment of honorarium to the Nambardars. Mr. Badal also asked the Revenue department to take up the matter with Deputy Commissioners for working out modalities to allot some space if available or an office in tehsil premises to ensure proper atmosphere to Nambardars for discharging their duties.
            Responding to various issues raised by the members of the delegation, Mr. Majithia assured the Chief Minister that he would personally take up the matter with Finance Minister to ensure prompt release of the revised payment of honorarium to the Nambardars. He also apprised the Chief Minister that he would sort out the issue to provide official accommodation to the Nambardars at tehsil level.   
            Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister for conceding their majority of demands, the president of Punjab Nambardar Union assured that they would also extend all out cooperation to the government in bringing awareness against the social evils like female feticide, drug addiction, dowry and above all they demanded a complete ban on the vulgar Punjabi songs which had vitiated our rich and pious cultural legacy.
            Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Financial Commissioner Revenue Mr. NS Kang, Principal Secretary Finance Mr. Satish Chandra, Mr. KJS Cheema and Mr. Gurkirat Kirpal Singh (both Special Principal Secretaries to CM),  Secretary Transport Mr. Mandeep Singh, Secretary Coordination Mr. Roshan Sunkaria, Special Secretary Revenue Mr. SS Khara.
