The Punjab Government
today started a Placement Portal for the benefit of students of various
ITIs, Polytechnic and Engineering
Colleges in the
state to provide more and more employment opportunities to the students in the
state.
The Principal
Secretary of the Technical Education Department Mr. S.S. Channi today said
that the portal would provide information about the alumni, their achievements,
career services, alumni facilities, seminars and guest lectures/workshops and
the trade wise positions available in industries. He said that to motivate more
and more alumnus to join this portal and for their working as brand
ambassadors, awards for the Alumni of the year and Legend Alumni would be
introduced in due course of time. He said that it has been mandatory for all
the technical educational institutions to upload all the information about the
admission and placement of students. He said that each and every student would
have a unique portal address which would also be helpful in creating a data
base of technical education students in the state. He further said with the
launch of this portal, it would become easy for department to collect the
information about the placed students as well as the job seekers studying in
all technical educational government institutions.
He further said that
at the same time, the department has also launched the TEQIP-II (Technical
Education Quality Improvement Programme). The project aims at improving faculty
development, training to technical staff, purchase of equipment and machinery
for imparting training to the students on the latest machinery, civil work, and
scholarship/stipend to students of the state.
The funds sanctioned
under this project are Rs. 60 crore at the moment and are likely to be
increased further in the coming period. The first installment of Rs. 10.40
crore has already been received by the Technical Education Department. He said
that today a grant of Rs. 2 crore each has been distributed to Beant College of
Engineering and Technology Gurdaspur, SBS College of Engineering, Ferozepur,
GZS Campus, Bathinda, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College,
Ludhiana and Thapar
University, Patiala as initial amount to start the
programme. Besides that Rs. 32 Lakh has also been given to CEC Landran as first
instalment. He said that Rs 8 lakh has been given to state project facilitation
unit for the upgradation of technical education in the state, he added.
