Civil suit against Punjab Chief Minister Badal in Wisconsin

CHANDIGARH, AUG 9
A spokesman of the Punjab Government today dismissed  as a “ cheap and desperate publicity stunt  “ a civil suit filed in a Wisconsin civil court against Chief Minister Sardar Parkash Singh Badal by thoroughly rejected  and  marginalized elements owing allegiance to the  philosophy of  violence, bloodshed  and communal hatred preached by Mr. Simranjit Singh Mann.
“ It is ironical at a time when the Chief Minister is busy visiting and meeting  the families of the innocent victims of the tragic outrage, these elements have chosen to play havoc with the sentiments of the community by resorting to the gimmick of civil suit, full of glaring falsehoods, against him,”
The spokesman further said that the case filed by Mr. Mann’s associates and friends was just a last-minute pathetic bid by elements in the throes of certain political death and oblivion to attract media attention through a resort to sensationalism. “These elements, who swore by terror and communal and  racial hatred and operated as mere mercenaries in politics , have been repeatedly rebuffed by the people of  Punjab and were finally consigned to the dustbin of history during the last assembly elections held in Punjab in which none of the candidates fielded by them succeeded even in saving his security deposit.”
The spokesperson regretted that these unscrupulous elements had brought disgrace to the Sikh community by first enjoying the generous hospitality of the US system and later misusing it in attempt to mislead the system and the people. This ran against the Sikh tenets of gratitude to the hosts.  “They however will never succeed in this as we have complete faith in the US legal and judicial system.”
The spokesman said that it came as no surprise to the people of Punjab that these elements had chosen to file a suit which was itself full of  glaring untruths and factual inaccuracies .  For instance, said the spokesperson, they had accused Mr. Badal of appointing the former Punjab Police Chief KPS Gill as Advisor to the Government of Punjab. “Mr. Gill never served in any capacity in any of the tenures of Mr. Badal since 1997.  “

The spokesman said that Mr. Badal’s public life has been a glorious saga  of commitment to  high democratic values and to the rule of law. Peace , communal harmony and a commitment to the supremacy of judiciary have been the corner stones of his political vision. “Even eminent apolitical figures such as Governors had often described  Mr. Badal as   “Saint-Statesman and a Man of  Peace”.  As such, to the people of  Punjab  , the allegations levelled by Mr. Badal’s thoroughly  frustrated political opponents sound as nothing more than a bunch of fabulous lies and jokes.”
In sharp contrast to Mr. Badal’s  commitment to democracy, rule of law and the supremacy of judiciary, the elements behind the cheap gimmick against him have  always sought to ridicule the Indian judicial system, showing complete distrust in the prevalence of rule  of law in the country . “These are the very people who had dubbed Mr. Badal’s commitment to peaceful democratic path as a sign of cowardice compared with their own irresponsible high-decibel violent campaign which preaches politics of bloodshed and terror.  Thousands of defenseless and innocent people in Punjab became the tragic victims of the philosophy preached by Mr. Mann and his associates. Their lip- service now paid by them to the judicial path  will not  befool anyone in Punjab or the rest of the country .”
“It is ridiculous that this bunch of unscrupulous mercenaries acting in the garb of political outfits, had openly expressed lack of confidence and faith in judiciary in the country and had ridiculed the peaceful democratic path and yet were parading themselves as so called champions of  human rights., “ said the spokesperson.
