DDOs responsible for deduction and deposit of employees' Income Tax

The Punjab Government has issued new set of instructions for the deduction of income tax from employees' salary. DDOs (Drawing and Disbursement Officers) were made responsible for the regular deduction of income tax and to deposit it to Income Tax Department.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesman of the General Administration Department said that all the officials/officers, whose salary through all means is more than Rs.2 lakh in the financial year 2012-13, should furnish the information on prescribed Performa by 15 September, 2012. He said that the employees should also mention the tax relief-able savings in given column of the Performa. He said that this information would enable the authorities to deduct the income tax in equitable installments.
The spokesman clarified that the any employee, who wished to change the GPF subscription for the year 2012-13, he could get it done in the salaries of months March and October. He said that this information should reach the office by 10th of above mentioned months. He said that in the absence of this required information, the income tax would be deducted every month on average in equitable installments. He further said that as par the guidelines of Income Tax Act, this income deduction from the salary would be the responsibility of DDOs.
