Sukhbir inaugurates 10-lane high level bridge in Amritsar

  The holy city Amritsar today got a major relief from the chronic traffic congestion point with Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal dedicated multilane high level over bridge to the progressive and enterprising people of Amritsar.
          Dedicating the project to the people, Mr. Badal said that SAD-BJP Government was vigorously implementing the development agenda that it had unfolded before the people. He said that during last three days alone he has personally inaugurated or dedicated Rs. 1117 crore road projects including 4 lane highways, ROBs and roads along the canals. He said that Amritsar was on his priority list No.1 as he himself has decided to head the firstever ‘Metropolitan Council’ being constituted for planned development and growth of the city. 
He said that the council including public representatives and experts would draw up a master plan for Amritsar that would include sewage network upgradation, widening of roads, building futuristic infrastructure for the city, heritage preservation besides planned traffic management and removal of all unauthorised encroachments in the city. He said that the Amritsar-Gateway to South East Asia is all set to witness a sea change with the investment of Rs. 3500 crore in execution of this master plan.
          Speaking to media, Mr. Badal said that he has taken the incident of hooch tragedy in district Gurdaspur very seriously and ordered IG Border Range to thoroughly probe the incident and submit report to him. He said that he has also ordered statewide crackdown on Hooch Mafia and no body with whatever political or police connection would be spared. He said that SAD-BJP Government to free Punjab from the clutches of narcotic trade and crackdown on hooch mafia was part of that campaign.
          When questioned about deteriorating crime situation in Amritsar, Mr. Badal said that the Commissioner of Police Amritsar has been given a one point brief to check petty crimes like snatchings, eve-teasing, thefts with heavy hand and area SHO, in whose area the crime would take place, would be personally accountable and responsible for this. He said that strict instructions have already been issued to improve the traffic scenario in the state, check wrong parking, red light jumping besides over speed and driving after consuming alcohol. Mr. Badal said that the huge modernisation plan including intensive CCTV surveillance of all big cities would be quite helpful in checking the crime and traffic scenario in the state.
          When asked about plans of revenue generation, Mr. Badal said that every resource mobilisation plan would be implemented after consultation with BJP. He rubbished the suggestion giving priority to Rural Areas and said that Shiromani Akali Dal was not a rural based party as its MLA have won on 70% urban seats. He said that every section of the society including rural population would have to contribute their share in the development of the state.
          Expressing concern over poor show by Indian Hockey team in London Olympic, Mr. Badal said that we would have to inculcate sports culture in our psyche to upgrade the sports department. He said that Punjab Government has drawn up an ambitious plan to nurture talent right from 3 year age of budding talent and has decided to open one Sports School in each district of the state and first school has started working in Ghudda. He said that he has already approved Rs. 214 crore ‘Sports Infrastructure Upgradation Plan’ besides ordering to fill the backlog of 3% sports quota in the jobs.
           Mr. Badal after inaugurating the bridge himself drove on the bridge after cutting the ceremonial ribbon. Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu, Member Parliament, Mrs. Navjot Kaur Sidhu and Mr. Inderbir Singh Bolaria (both CPS) and all newly elected councillors besides SGPC members.
