CHANDIGARH, FEB 28
Thanking the people of Moga and the party workers for their support for the February 23 Moga byelection, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder today said, the verdict was manipulated and manufactured by the Akalis by blatant abuse of money, muscle, police and official power. He pointed out the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had even threatened discrimination in development if people of Moga did not vote for Akali Dal.
In a statement issued here today, Capt Amarinder congratulated the people of Moga for participating in the democratic process and fighting against the intimidation by the ruling Akali Dal. He said, the Akali Dal used all the money and muscle power to intimidate and hoodwink the voters to facilitate the result in its favour.
The PCC President maintained that the outcome of the byelection is no reflector of the popularity of the government when entire ministry and official machinery was concentrating on the single constituency. He said, an atmosphere of pressure was built up to the extent that the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal a self proclaimed soft spoken gentleman threatened people that in case they wanted development they should vote for the Akali Dal.
More than that, Capt Amarinder said, the Akalis used the police and the government officials like from the Excise and Taxation against the traders to force them to submission. He said, this byelection was no reflector of the public mood across the state as this was purely a manipulated and manufactured verdict.
