CHANDIGARH, FEB 7
The Punjab Government
has approved a prestigious project worth Rs. 15 Crore to strengthen Kartarpur
as a tourist destination under 12th Five Year Plan for the ongoing Sikh Circuit
tourism plan in Punjab.
Disclosing
this here today, Mr. Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Tourism and Cultural Affairs
Minister Punjab expressed his gratefulness to the Punjab Chief Minister, Mr
Parkash Singh Badal, who has formally agreed to this project formulated by the
department of Tourism to widen the integrated infrastructure for religious
tourism development and improve connectivity to the identified religious
tourism circuits.
The Minister said that a team has
already been sent to Kartarpur to work out the modalities. Giving details of
the Kartarpur Tourism Plan, he said that about 12 crore would be spent on the
amplification of the connectivity especially redevelopment of approach road
network aimed at providing better facilities to the tourists.
Besides this an Interpretation Audio/ Visual
center completely equipped with latest technology is also being set up at a
cost of 3 crores. Reiterating Punjab government’s resolve in bringing Punjab
prominently on the International tourism map, Mr. Phillaur said that adequate
steps like special marketing strategy, developing tourism circuits and
scrutinizing religious trusts to boost religious tourism in the state have been
taken by the Punjab government.
