Area Sabha and Ward Committee to be constituted

The citizens of the Punjab would now have say in the development activities of the cities in the state Area Sabha and Ward Committee to be constituted in all cities, to empower citizens with more power enabling them to contribute in the development projects to be executed in their respective area.
To implement this scheme in proper prospective, Mr. Chunni Lal Bhagat, Minister for Local Bodies today hold a high level meeting with the senior officers of the department, besides Mr Som Parkash, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Jagpal Singh, Principal Secretary and Mr. Priank Bharti, Director of the Local Bodies Department were present in the meeting.
In a press communiqué Mr. Bhagat said that the Punjab Government has carved out a special Act with a sole motive to empower the local citizens to participate constructively in the implementation of the development projects. He said for providing a legal platform to the citizen ward and area committees would be constituted in cites. A Municipality would have 5 ward at the most and a ward henceforth be divided into minimum 3 or maximum 10 parts, which would be called Area.
