CM exhorts religious leaders to help spread education

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today called upon the people to tread on the path of spiritualism as it ultimately led them to attain the path of salvation.
Addressing the gathering after the inauguration of the Physiotherapy centre at Chinmaya Trust Ashram here today, the Chief Minister said that there was lot of mental stress and strain in the present materialistic society due to which people hardly had any time to relax. He said that in such scenario divinity was the panacea of all ills especially when we were tormented by the pangs of the agonies. Mr Badal said that such divine programs helped in relieving the mankind from the stressful and monotonous routine besides soothing the mind and soul of the people on one hand and spreading the ethos of love, harmony and brotherhood on the other.
Lauding the organizers for their efforts to hold such programs, the Chief Minister urged them to play a proactive role in sensitizing the people to spread the message of goodwill, amity and tolerance. He also appreciated the trust for setting up a physiotherapy centre for rehabilitation of the patients with trauma and Orthopedic problems. Exhorting the spiritual leaders to play a proactive role for promoting education and curbing the menace of drugs besides other social maladies in the state, Mr Badal further said that it was the need of the hour that the spiritual leaders should make all out efforts for preaching the message of communal harmony and universal brotherhood amongst the people to create a harmonious society.  He said that Punjab being the pious land of great Gurus, Saints, Seers and Prophets has been blessed with peace, tranquility and goodwill. 
Earlier talking to the media persons, the Chief Minister assailed the Union government for conspiring to crush the peasantry of the country by levying Wealth Tax on them. Mr Badal said that the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) would oppose any such move tooth and nail to safeguard the interests of the farmers. He categorically said that the imposition of wealth tax would ruin the farmers and break their backbone besides increasing their agonies.
The Chief Minister bemoaned that the dejected farmers were already on the verge of economic disaster due to the anti-farmer policies of the Union government owing to which they were being forced to commit suicides. Mr Badal said the SAD would lodge forceful protest at all the district headquarters of the state on May 2 to express their resentment against this tax. We will also meet the Prime Minister and demand the rolling back of this draconian tax, he added. 
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Mr Anil Joshi, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mr IS Bularia, Chairman District Planning Board Mr Veer Singh Lopoke and Swami Tejo Maya Nand.
