Punjab procures record paddy despite biggest drought

CHANDIGARH, NOV 15
    The farmers of Punjab surprised the world by clocking record procurement of paddy beating the biggest drought in the country with 42% rain deficiency in the state. The 1770 procurement centres in the state have procured more then 12711517 Paddy against total procurement of 119 lac MT recorded last paddy season.
          Disclosing this here today the spokesman of the Punjab government said that Government agencies and private millers procured more than 12711517 tonnes of paddy till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1770 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy.
The spokesman of the government said that Out of total procurement of 12711517 tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 12114073 tonnes of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 597444 tonnes of paddy. Till date, PUNGRAIN procured 3553433 tonnes (29.3%), MARKFED procured 2747606 tonnes (22.7%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 2785059 tonnes (23.0%) PSWC procured 1224151 tonnes (10.1%) whereas PAFC was able to procure 1253343 tonnes (10.3%) of paddy.The Central Government agency FCI had  been able to procure 550481  tonnes (4.5%). 
          The spokesman added that District Ludhiana with 1513706 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Sangrur with 1435239 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Patiala with 1193570  tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
