The Punjab Chief Minister, Mr. Parkash Singh
Badal ,accompanied by Indian Ambassador in US Ms Nirupama Rao today visited the bereaved families of the three victims of
shooting incident in Oak Creek Gurdwara namely S. Satwant Singh Kaleke, Bibi Paramjit Kaur and S. Suvegh Singh
Khattra and conveyed condolences with them in this hour of crisis.
Expressing solidarity with the members of
these families, the Chief Minister said that it was
really a painful moment for all those who have lost their beloved ones in this
unfortunate and tragic incident. He also visited the injured in the Friedart
General Hospital, Malwaukee to enquire their well being of the injured and wished
them speedy recovery. The Chief Minister also met the injured US Police officer
Lt. Brien Merphy, who was also
recuperating in the hospital and highly appreciated the exemplary courage shown
by him in saving several innocent lives in this ghastly attack.
Mr. Badal also
attended the prayer meeting at the Sikhs of Wisconsin Brookfiled Gurdwara
yesterday in the memory of the victims who lost their lives in this tragic
incident. In his address the Chief Minister assured
that the Punjab
government would extend all possible help along with other logistic support to
the relatives of the victims.
The Chief
Minister also announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs. 5 lakh for next of the kin of
each of six victims killed in this unfortunate incident and also said that the
State Government would provide free higher education in medical, engineering or
any other stream to the children of the deceased. On the occasion the Chief Minister prayed to
the Almighty to give enormous strength to these bereaved families for bearing
this huge loss and grant eternal peace to the departed souls.
It may be
recalled that the Chief Minister had earlier announced that the state
government would bear the entire expenditure on the transportation of the
bodies from US to India.
Mr Badal had already urged Indian Ambassador in US Ms Nirupama Rao to ensure the
security and safety of the Sikh community.
