CHANDIGARH, AUGUST 3
The Punjab Government has created a Separate Cadre of Teachers for 16 Kilometer border belt, keeping in view the acute and perennial shortage of teachers in the border belt.
Accompanied by Member Parliament Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Education Minister Mr. Sikander Singh Maluka, the Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today reviewed the working of education department and said that since last 65 years border areas had faced a constant problem of shortage of teachers and this could be solved only by creating a separate cadre of teachers, who would remain permanently posted in the border areas. Mr. Maluka informed that the Education Department has sought options from the teachers, who would like to get themselves included in the border cadre. He said that after filling the posts by options, the remaining vacant posts would be advertised for fresh recruitment. He said that these teachers would permanently remain in the border cadre.
Giving directions to fill the vacant posts in the Rural Schools, Mr. Badal said that already recruited teachers and all future fresh recruited teachers would be compulsorily posted in Rural Areas for minimum three years. Mr. Maluka said that he is bringing this proposal in the cabinet for change in the rules. Mr. Badal directed that education department must come out with a placement policy of the teachers, classifying the posts or stations as A, B, C and D categories and teachers should be rotated on every category of station and those enjoying permanent urban postings should be also made to serve in the rural areas.
Asking the Education Department to notify the rules for upcoming education cities, Mr. Badal said that we should make the provisions of 50 % reservation for state students in institutes coming in education cities, so that students from Punjab could get world class education.
Mooting a new school bus scheme for rural students, Mr. Badal asked Secretary Education and Transport Secretary to collectively work out a ‘School Transport Scheme’ model and run it on trial basis in district Mansa and Bathinda and after its success be replicated through out the state.
