Dr. R.C. Sobti, a well-known academician and the former Vice-Chancellor of Punjab University was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of DAV University at Jalandhar, as per UGC norms, on Sunday.

Dr. R.C. Sobti, a well-known academician and the former Vice-Chancellor of Punjab University was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of DAV University at Jalandhar, as per UGC norms, on Sunday.
A
decision in this regard was taken at the meeting of DAV College
Managing Committee held under the chairmanship of its President Mr.
Punam Suri, at its headquarters at New Delhi on Sunday.
Speaking
on the item, Mr. Suri said that DAV University would not be an ordinary
one but a novel University which would have the thrust in research
work. It would provide high level education based on ethics and cultural
values. Curriculum and syllabus would be drafted in consultation with
Industrial sector so that students get passed out from here are absorbed
in jobs. He said that a committee comprising of five former
Vice-Chancellors has been constituted for guiding in chalking out
curriculum and syllabus.
He
further disclosed that a committee was also constituted in the meeting
to complete formalities to start construction work of Mahatama Hans Raj
DAV Institute of Nursing at Jallunder, for which a total estimate budget
of Rs. 49.06 crores had already been approved.
Mr.
Suri further disclosed to this correspondent on telephone that the DAV
management also resolved to introduce Educational Audit of DAV Public
Schools to assess the character and quality of the institutions. This
would build a system of in-house educational audit for evaluating
institutions and to determine whether or not they are operating at
minimum levels of quality.
He
said that an assessment of each institution will ensure conformity to
good practices and bench marks of global requirements. It would also
assist the schools to self apprise the institution’s facilities, faculty
vis-à-vis performance and stimulate the academic environment for
facilitating the transaction of curriculum and to ensure
self-evaluating, accountability, autonomy and innovations.
