Entire Congress leadership descends on Moga; resolves to avenge betrayal

By Punjabnewswire4u
MOGA, JAN 9
Punjab Congress leaders today exhorted upon the people of Moga to deliver their verdict whether the betrayal should be rewarded or punished. The entire leadership of the party led by the Punjab Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh, including Congress Working Committee Member Jagmeet Singh Brar, the Congress Legislative Party Leader Sunil Jakhar and several sitting and former MLAs today attended the rally in what turned out to be the beginning of the campaign for the ensuing byelection necessitated by the desertion and resignation of the sitting MLA from here, Joginderpal Jain.
At the same time the local leaders of the party including Darshan Singh Brar, Malti Thapar and Vijay Sathi resolved that whosoever was chosen by the party high command to contest will get the support of the entire rank and file of the party. To this Punjab Congress President Capt Amarinder said he will be camping in Moga for the entire campaign period to ensure the victory of the party candidate whosoever is chosen by the party President Ms Sonia Gandhi.
Addressing the rally, Capt Amarinder said, the Moga byelection will change the course of the political history of Punjab. He declared that the party will repeat the history of Adampur byelection when the Congress defeated the Akali Dal despite the latter being in power.
The PCC President reminded the ruling Akali Dal that it should not take it for granted that it will remain in power for five years just because it had won the elections. “We have seen President’s rule being imposed”, he warned while referring to the deterioration in the law and order situation in the state that can necessitate imposition of President’s rule once again.
Lashing out at the revenue minister and youth Akali Dal president Bikram Majithia, he said, he was the greatest goon about whom, he had told several times to Mr Badal, should be reined in. He pointed out, the way Majithia abused and used foul language against Rana Gurjeet and the way the Chief Minister and the Speaker acted reflected poorly on this government. He expressed surprise over Mr Badal’s stand on the issue, saying one day he was taunting Majithia for eyeing his chair and the other day coming to his defence.
Capt Amarinder also had a dig at Mr Badal’s claims of having spent 17 years in jail. “Let he tell us which jails he spent this much of time”, he remarked while disclosing that he (Mr Badal) will always spend his time in the state rest houses amidst all the comforts that anyone could get. He alleged that Mr Badal had a standard way of provoking people to violence and getting himself lodged in the government guest houses and come out to win elections.
Lashing out at Joginderpal Jain, the PCC President said, he was now a history. He said, as Jain had himself said he was a businessman he was now at the right place and in the right party, since all of them including Mr Badal, Sukhbir and Majithia were only doing business.
Speaking on the occasion CWC Member Jagmeet Singh Brar said that the Moga byelection was going to decide whether a deserter who had betrayed his own people should be honoured or punished. He expressed confidence that the people of Moga will teach a lesson to Jain so that no one else will dare to betray.
Addressing the rally CLP Leader Sunil Jakhar ridiculed Jain for saying he had certain compulsions to join the Akali Dal. He said, such leaders do not have any compulsions, but only weaknesses that make them succumb to temptations. He expressed doubts whether he will get the party ticket as Mr Parkash Singh Badal will always prefer a taksali Akali to Jain.
Among others present included the sitting legislators Arvind Khanna, Rana Gurjeet, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Surinder Dawer, Modhammad Sadiq, Amrik Dhillon, Gurkirat Kotli, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Ajaib Singh Bhati, Joginder Singh Panjgraian, Punjab Mahilla Congress President Malti Thapar, Punjab Youth Congress president Vikram Chaudhry,  former legislators Darshan Singh Brar, Isher Singh Meharban, Ajit Singh Shant, Chiranji Lal Garg, Milkiat Singh Dakha, Gurdeep Bhaini, Moga District Congress president Gurdarshan Kaur, Harmohinder Pardhan, Gurpreet Singh Kangar, Tara Singh Sandhu, Sukhvinder Singh Danny, Sukhjit Singh Kaka Lohgarh, Harminder Gill, Lakhbir Singh Lakha and others.
