 The Union Ministry of Human Resource has derecognized the degree of mechanical engineering being given by Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IME), Mumbai with effect from June 10, 2002.

            According to an official spokesman these orders have been issued as per the judgment of Punjab and Haryana High Court that found that the concerned degree was not recognised by UGC and IME was neither a university nor a deemed university and was not authorized to confer the degree. It has issued orders that only degrees issued upto 10-06-2002 were valid and subsequent degrees in view of notification dated 10-06-2002 issued by Ministry of Human Resource Development for derecognition were not valid.

            All Financial Commissioners, Administrative Secretaries and Head of the Departments have been issued instructions in this regard.
