Gyanendra Bhardwaj, a veteran journalist, passed away at the age of 79 in Chandigarh on March 25, 2013. Gyanendra , a sober thouhgtful jourlaist was socially active and had a knack for news and command over lanauage.
He started his career at Hindusthan Samachar, Delhi, which was followed by by his stints at Jan Pradeep, Jalandhar, as Editor and Hindustan (Hindustan Times Group), Delhi, as Special Correspondent and

Bhardwaj, who was appreciated for his intelligent style of writing during the Emergency and his news reporting during Operation Bluestar, remained proactive in raising people's issues even after his retirement in 1995. He vociferously took up issues of his native town,Baddi (Solan), before the authorities concerned for which he was honoured by the Rotary Club, Baddi, was the Founder President of an environmental NGO, Him Parivesh. He was also one of the founding
members of the Chandigarh Press Club.

A prayer meeting for the departed soul will be held at 12:30 pm at Shiv Mandir near the old bus stand in Baddi on March 28.
