More MBBS seats expected to be added in Punjab

CHANDIGARH, SEPT 25
The Punjab Government has taken a proactive initiative for the increase of MBBS and BDS seats in the medical colleges located in the state.
            According to an official spokesman Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot has already submitted the required documents to Medical Council of India for increase of seats from 50 to 100. Similarly, Government of Punjab was already in the process to increase the number of intake seats from 150 to 250 at Government Medical College Patiala and Amritsar respectively. He said that the Punjab Government has already strengthened the required infrastructure in medical colleges to meet the requirement for increasing seats and Punjab Government has already pumped in Rs. 90.83 crore for upgrading the infrastructure.
             The spokesman said that regarding private medical colleges Government has issued No Objection Certificates/ Essentiality Certificate in favour of Guru Nanak Dev Medical College, Dhahan Kaleran for annual intake up to 100 seats. He said that NOC for starting another medical and one dental college in private sector was under progress. The affiliation of Chintpurni Medical College, Pathankot was already subjudice and no comments could be made on that. He said that Medical Council of India is affiliating and a recognizing body and yearly inspections of new institutions were conducted till they were given permanent affiliation with MCI or Dental Council of India.
            The spokesman said that Punjab Government was making all out efforts to increase the intake capacity of MBBS seats in state of Punjab.
